Disney World is making a big step forward toward the promised Magic Kingdom expansion. Take a look at this progress, “Beyond Big Thunder”.
Beyond Big Thunder

The promise of a Magic Kingdom expansion has been building over the years. Disney announced a potential expansion of Magic Kingdom during the 2022 D23 weekend.
At that time, it was just an idea they were considering instead of a concrete plan. With Disney Imagineering, these brainstorming plans are labeled “Blue Sky”.
During the big D23 fan event last September, Disney officially announced plans for Villains Land, and Disney also announced plans to remove Tom Sawyer Island from the Magic Kingdom and bring in a new Cars-themed land.
Ground Clearing for Villains Land and Cars Land

As with any project, permits must be filed, and in February, the permit for 407 Basin Stormwater Modifications was approved. This is for the changes to be made at Frontierland and the Villains Land expansion. Permits have been filed for this expansion, and Cars Land as also been approved!
Recently, we heard news that work is being done behind the Magic Kingdom. Today, we took a closer look and noticed that several trees are now being cleared to make way for this expansion.
Disney has remained quiet about this work, but we are ready for it!
Magic Kingdom Expansion

When this was first announced, Josh D’Amaro shared that there will be 2 attractions, dining, shopping, and more. Be sure to check out the full villainous lineup HERE. osh D’amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shares, “The addition will be on ‘an incredibly twisted grand scale’ unlike anything that Disney has done in the past at its parks.”
Ground is now being cleared for the new Villains Land and Cars Land expansion.
Cars Land will take guests beyond Radiator Springs. There will be brand-new territory to explore with two great attractions! This will replace the current Rivers of America attractions. A closing date for Tom Sawyer Island or the Liberty Square Riverboat has not been set.
