runDisney Makes a Big Change to Their Upcoming Race Season Calendar

Disney has made a change to the 2024-2025 race season calendar. Did you notice? Find out what races runDisney will no longer be offering.

runDisney adds the activity of running to our favorite place, Disney! There are four runDisney event weekends in Walt Disney World, and starting next race season two in Disneyland!

I (Heather) love runDisney events. They are unlike any other race you will experience, from the atmosphere to the on course entertainment.

2024-2025 Race Season Calendar

Last October, runDisney shared the 2024-2025 race season calendar! runDisney fans were ecstatic to see not one, but two Disneyland race weekends! The new Disneyland race weekend will be Halloween themed!

It’s always exciting to see the following years schedule of events. It also helps put some motivation into your training! Here is the full list of events and registration dates:

• runDisney Virtual Series June 1 – August 31, 2024. Registration takes place on March 26, 2024.
• Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend September 5 – 8, 2024. Club runDisney registration begins February 6, 2024 and general registration takes place on February 13, 2024.
• Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend October 31 – November 3, 2024. Club runDisney registration begins March 5, 2024 and general registration takes place on March 12, 2024.
• runDisney Virtual 12Ks of Christmas December 1 – 31, 2024. Registration takes place on July 9, 2024.
• Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend January 8 – 12, 2025. Club runDisney registration begins April 2, 2024 and general registration takes place on April 9, 2024.

• Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend January 30 – February 2, 2025. Club runDisney registration begins June 11, 2024 and general registration takes place on June 18, 2024.
• Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend February 20 – 24, 2025. Club runDisney registration begins July 23, 2024 and general registration takes places on July 30, 2024.
• runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend April 3 – 6, 2025. Club runDisney registration begins August 20, 2024 and general registration takes places on August 27, 2024.

Club runDisney registration dates are for Gold and Platinum Members only.

Big Change to Next Season’s Race Calendar

For the 2024-2025 race season there will be no option for virtual events for the in-person events. runDisney will only offer the runDisney Virtual Series and the runDisney Virtual 12Ks of Christmas.

runDisney will no longer offer a virtual option for the in-person race weekends.

What this means for runDisney athletes is that they have to complete the races in-person in order to earn their medals. I am saddened by this change, as many used this option if they couldn’t travel or gave them motivation. It also seemed like a good money maker for Disney, so I am surprised to see this change.

However, this does make everyone “earn” their challenge medal as you do not have to submit a time for any of the virtual events to receive your medal. It can be unfair that some virtual participants can “buy” the challenge medal without ever completing the event while in-person participants have to finish to receive their challenge medal.

Regardless, I feel this is a disappointing change to next year’s race season.
