It is so disappointing for theme park Guests when one of the major attractions is down with no reopening timeframe in sight. Here are the details for what to expect from one popular Universal attraction.

Refurbishments and Repairs

Refurbishments are a necessary beast. After all, they help keep everyone safe on the rides we love to experience when we visit theme parks. Typically Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World do a great job of keeping us up to date on planned refurbishments so that visitors can manage expectations. For example, one Disney coaster is down for refurbishment now, and you can read about it HERE.

However, every now and then a major mechanical issue forces a ride to close with no warning, and that can be even more disappointing. When a popular ride is down, it can affect even those who did not want to ride it as it can cause lengthier wait times for other attractions in the park. That is what is happening right now in Universal Orlando at Islands of Adventure.

Headliner Goes Down

Today, February 6, one very popular Islands of Adventure rollercoaster went down due to technical issues. Jurassic World VelociCoaster did not open. Usually, when a Universal attraction is down, but reopening is anticipated, it will be marked as “delayed.”

However, Jurassic World VelociCoaster is marked “closed today.” In fact, the Universal Orlando social media account pages are confirming for curious visitors that Jurassic World VelociCoaster is closed for the day due to technical difficulties.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster opened in the summer of 2021. It has not had any prolonged closures for major refurbishments, and hopefully, for those visiting this week, this is not the start of one!

Universal’s social media pages are not making any promises as to when the ride will be running again. However, the social media responders do say to check the Universal Orlando app tomorrow for updates. Hopefully, it will be up and going before too long.

UPDATE: As of Thursday, the ride is finally running. And Wait times are soaring.
