Refurbishments and Closures

If you are investing your hard-earned dollars into a vacation, you probably want to get the most out of the experience. Advanced notification of closures and refurbishments can help you plan your travel dates so that you get the most bang for your buck. After all, you don’t want to schedule a trip for a time when all of your bucket-list-worthy attractions are out of commission.

While some ride closures can’t be helped and happen on the fly, Universal Orlando is pretty good about providing plenty of advanced notice for closures. For example, we know that the winter season is bringing refurbishments for Hogwarts Express, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, Jurassic River Adventure, and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls over at Toon Lagoon.

Typically the water rides do receive needed maintenance and refurbishment during the cooler months when fewer people are interested in them. And, the same is true for entire parks sometimes!

An Entire Park’s Closure

Sometimes it is necessary to close an entire park for maintenance or refurbishments. In this case, Universal Orlando plans to close Volcano Bay for 9 full days!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, Volcano Bay is Universal’s water park, and what an outstanding water park it is! it truly has its own fan following, and who can blame them?

There has been no official reason nor explanation provided for the closure. However, refurbishment, maintenance, or private events are the most likely culprits.

The Closure Schedule

Not all days of the closure are consecutive, so it is best to present them as a list. The dates that Universal has listed as CLOSED for Volcano Bay for January are as follows:

  • January 9-10
  • January 17-18
  • January 24-26
  • January 30-31

Of course, there are also several days in December that are currently marked with no park hours and explanation. It does look like the park will be closed during these days. These are December 6-7; December 12-13; and December 18-19.

Hopefully, knowing about these dates will help you with your next plans to visit!
