It is no secret that live-action reboots have been a big part of Disney’s plans as of late. While those films have been met with mixed reactions, people tend to receive live-action prequel stories such as Maleficent or Cruella a bit more favorably. Perhaps this is because people would prefer to see a new piece of a story, rather than a retelling of one they already know so well.

Whatever the reason, Disney must think it will be a profitable enterprise. Shortly after The Lion King (2019) roared to financial success, Disney announced a new installment. However, instead of a villain prequel, Disney is taking the story in another direction.

We will learn more about a fallen hero’s back story this time. The titular character Mufasa is at the center of the new film. It will take moviegoers along on Mufasa’s rise to royalty in The Pride Lands.

Mufasa: The Lion King was originally supposed to hit theatres next summer on July 5, 2024. However, now moviegoers will have to wait a bit longer to see it.

That is because, like many movies, the film has been pushed back. Its theatrical debut is now set for December 20, 2024, just in time to entertain holiday crowds.

Mufasa is not the only Disney movie to see a release date shake-up. Elio from Pixar is also going to be released later than anticipated. Snow White also has a new release date.
