If you are a Mickey Mouse fan, chances are you have heard of Steamboat Willie. In 1928, Steamboat Willie became Disney’s first Mickey Mouse animated short to be publically released!
In the cartoon, Mickey embarks on a journey aboard a steamboat. He encounters his nemesis, Captain Peg Leg Pete, who takes over the voyage.
After a trip ashore, Mickey jumps back aboard the steamboat, when he sees Minnie Mouse trying to catch up to them. Once she is safely aboard, the two play an arrangement of Turkey in the Straw with the help of their animal pals who stand in as instruments. You can catch this Disney original on Disney+ if you have never seen it for yourself.
A New Nod to Steamboat Willie
If you love Steamboat Willie, you will probably love how Disney is incorporating the cartoon into the parks for Guests to enjoy. Very soon, Disney is opening a Steamboat Willie Splash Pad!
Today Disney treated us to a preview of the splash pad. Disney describes it stating that “a large grayscale model inspired by the boat in “Steamboat Willie” will be helmed by none other than Mickey Mouse as it springs to life with imaginative water play features. From the boat’s cascading waterfall, misty fog effects rising from the boat’s funnels, and a variety of pop jets and fountains, little ones are sure to have a splashtastic time!” Isn’t it adorable? What’s more, this Splash Pad has some special effects! “Families can watch their technicolor dreams come true as the Steamboat Willie splash pad transforms from black and white to vivid colors with the help of some artistic lighting.” It sounds like an enchantingly magical touch.
When and Where Can Guests Play?
Beginning on September 28, 2023, Guests staying at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, an exciting new Disney Vacation Club property, will have the opportunity to bask in the California sun in the brand-new Palette Pool area, an inviting oasis designed for relaxation and play. This charming new splash pad will join the Palette Pool and Palm Breeze Bar in the pool area.
