Move over reboots, Disney is giving fans of a hit film a sequel 20 years in the making! And, it looks like the (movie) stars are aligning to make it happen.
Sequel Time
The recent wave of reboots has Disney fans looking for something a little new and different. Sure, it is interesting for a story to be retold with a new spin, but Disney fans are craving new stories, too!
One way creative minds use existing stories to make new ones is through sequels. Disney recently announced that fans could expect sequels from popular franchises such as Zootopia, Frozen, and Toy Story. We also know that Inside Out is getting a sequel (although some of the voice actors are NOT returning).
But animated franchises are not the only movies getting sequels. Last year, Disney treated fans to the return of the Sanderson Sisters with a sequel to a smash hit. Hocus Pocus 2 came directly to Disney+ just in time to kick off the spooky season. And now it appears Disney has a new sequel in the works. Things might just be getting a little bit freaky!
HUGE Sequel News
Freaky Friday (2003) was a comedic hit, and many fans still watch the movie today. In fact, there are people who saw it in the theatres and have since shared it with their own children over the years.
The movie is a reimagining of a 1976 film based on a popular 1972 novel. The story goes that a mother and daughter who are at odds with each other magically switch bodies one fateful Friday and learn to see things through one another’s eyes.
If you love the movie, get excited. According to the New York Times, a sequel to the 2003 comedic hit Freaky Friday is going to happen! Even better, it looks as if fans are going to be happy about the cast, too!
Who is Going to Star in the Film
One of Freaky Friday‘s (2003) stars Jamie Lee Curtis has been more than hinting at a sequel recently. So, it is no surprise that she has plans to reprise her role as Tess Coleman.
In fact, it is Curtis who initiated an interest in the film. She told the New York Times, “As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday. Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'”
Even better, Lindsay Lohan has confirmed that she is also on board with the project and is in talks to reprise her role as well. When asked about a sequel, she said, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
