TRON Soft Opening
TRON is a coaster like none other in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. This attraction is so different than other attractions, be sure to check out everything that you need to know about riding TRON HERE.
Disney will officially open Tron Lightcycle Run on April 4, 2023. However, from March 20th through April 2nd, guests may have the early opportunity to experience TRON Lightcycle/Run during a limited soft open virtual queue or purchase of Individual Lightning Lane entry.
During this soft opening, it seems that operating hours and procedures change almost daily.
Boarding Group Change
A virtual queue will be utilized with TRON Lightcycle / Run. Guests will need to use the My Disney Experience app to reserve a space for the attraction. A standby queue will not be available. Each Guest can enter the virtual queue no more than once per day during regular park hours.
Boarding groups for a virtual queue are limited, subject to availability, and are not guaranteed. Not all boarding groups may be called to return, based on the availability of the experience.
Guests receive notifications when their boarding group is called. In the past, guests could return at any time after their Boarding Group was called. We experienced this at both Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and also Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
For these other attractions, you could not arrive before your boarding group was called, but you could arrive any time after. This extended even several hours with no issue.
At this time, guests are told that they must return during their Boarding Group return time. If they arrive later, they are turned away. This is now confirmed with Cast Members working this attraction.
At this time, it is uncertain if this is simply for the soft opening or if this will be standard procedure for TRON. It is also important to note that Boarding Group return times begin called way earlier than what is estimated when first joining a Boarding Group.
At this time, guests are told that they must return during their TRON Boarding Group return time.

I’m sorry you experienced this and can understand your frustration with others going through and not being checked but I’m afraid I think everyone should be scanned and go through security . At the end of the day it’s keeping us safe and if it puts a little time onto our day then so be it . I’d rather that then something awful to happen.
We had a virtual que group on 3/20/2023 and our group was called 2hrs 15mins before it was originally anticipated to be called. We saw cast members turning people away after we got off the ride because they missed their times, but couldn’t hear the conversations between them; all we saw were people showing their phones and having an unhappy conversation then leaving.
I was told today when I tried to get in 2 hours after my window that they allow 1 hour extra but no more.
They should fix the system and allow people to select open time slots throughout the day. The fact that you have zero choice of time is ridiculous and flawed.
Any idea if they are going to do the child swap with Tron?
Yes, rider swap is available for TRON.
Many people want to experience the ride at night when the outdoor canopy lights are in action. If everyone gets to wait until dark before presenting at the entrance the wait times will be huge. Disney is just trying to even out the wait times by showing that they are sticking to their 1 hour time limit for each group. If you want later in the day just play by the rules and sign up for the 1 pm issue of group slots.
Went to TRON today via virtual que! However traffic was horrible at the main gate plus trying to go thru security was a JOKE! today was totally unnecessary for the security that not all checkpoints were equal. I had a mobility scooter my empty backpack on the back of my seat was thoroughly searched then I was told to get in line to be scanned since I can not walk thru the x-ray machine! The line was long I noticed people on scooters and strollers were directed to go thru without any search of their bags or self scanning! The same rule should apply at all times for everyone! The guard was going to scan me and I have this done every time I go to the parks to include Disney Springs! He was going to call someone and I said forget it I attempted to stand he waved the wand slightly then said you were scanned because of the metal on your scooter that is why you were sent to this line he waved the wand over my basket and said see the metal does make it beep! This was a total JOKE! I DID NOT GO ON TRON my husband did. I have fractures in my low spine causing pain. Everytime we have gone out there I have never gone thru this uncalled for harassment. I was discriminated and embarrassed by this fiasco. I was a CAST MEMBER for 6 years my husband worked for Reedy Creek so we are well aware of Disney policies and procedures and they should be the same for everyone at every Disney entry!!!
It should be this way always and on every VQ ride. They give a time for a reason and if you cant play by the rules, stay off the que and allow others who can enjoy!
