Disney's Hollywood Studios has undergone many changes over the yearsMuppet Vision 3D was the final major project that Jim Henson directed before he passed in 1990. It originally opened on May 16, 1991.

This film is special to many Muppet and Disney fans who have enjoyed it for several decades and as a final masterpiece created by Jim Henson. When Disney originally shared that the Muppet Courtyard would close to make room for a Monsters Inc.-themed land, this news was somewhat bittersweet.

Disney shared, "As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future."

The Walt Disney Company has not confirmed this collaboration, but it is great to hear that work is being completed to preserve this final work by Jim Henson.

We shared back in May that a special filming of Muppet Vision 3D was planned for Cast Members. It is possible that the Virtual Reality filming took place during this event. I (Donna) still have my fingers crossed that more will be done to preserve this film at the Disney Parks and even on Disney+.

  1. I just hope it is available on more than one platform. Quest is the most common headset, but Disney+ is only available on Apple Vision Pro. But Apple Vision Pro isn't listed as the best headset on anyone's listing. It is too expensive to reach the top of that list. Quest 3 and PSVR followed by HTC Vive are the top 3.

  2. This seems like the least that Disney can do. I still don't understand why Disney didn't ADD value to Studios and Magic Kingdom by EXPANDING to create the Monsters, Inc attraction and Cars Land, rather than destroying classic works to bring these new items to the parks. When Walt and Roy were first working on the "Florida Project," Walt commented that Florida offered something they did not have in Anaheim; plenty of land to expand. But as Bob Iger stated in an interview, he and Walt have a different vision. It shows, Bob. Believe me, it shows.
