Is Disney going to update its wildly popular ride Avatar Flight of Passage? We have the story for you!
Avatar Flight of Passage
It is no secret that Avatar Flight of Passage is one of Walt Disney World’s most popular rides. Though the ride opened years ago within the magical World of Pandora, it remains a headliner and attracts high wait times.
It is so popular and well-loved that when Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance took Hollywood Studios by storm, FOP fans remained steadfast. Many claim it is still the best ride in Walt Disney World, even compared with newcomers like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. And, it is possible its biggest fans will stick by it even when TRON finally opens.
Avatar: The Way of Water
The opening of the long-awaited second installment in the Avatar franchise Avatar: The Way of Water has already brought updates to the parks. For example, fans can see a new light show on The Tree of Life featuring imaging based on the film. Additionally, new foods await fans dining at Satu’li Canteen.
The Possibility of Updates for Avatar Flight of Passage
Of course, the release of the film begs the question: will elements of the new installment come to Walt Disney World’s hit attraction? Director James Cameron thinks it is possible.
In fact, according to Variety, Cameron has already pitched the idea of updating Avatar: Flight of Passage to Bob Iger. As you may know, Iger recently returned to the Walt Disney Company as CEO.
Cameron said, “When Bob Iger came back a couple of weeks ago, I did send him an email and say, ‘You know, we can do Avatar 2 and 3 motifs and put them into the physical hardware of Avatar: Flight of Passage.'” He also stated, “He liked that idea. So nothing has been decided. But, you know, we would like to carry that along and update it from time to time with things that flow back out of the new movies.”

What’s Next?
Disney has no known plans to carry out this dream. However, nothing is impossible, especially for a company built on the notion that “it’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” After all, other simulator-style attractions like Soarin’ and Star Tours- The Adventures Continue have received updates. Star Tours now incorporates motifs from films throughout the franchise.
Soarin’ Around the World, of course, is the result of an entire overhaul, although you can still enjoy the original version from time to time in Disneyland.
Should Walt Dinsey World consider an update for Avatar: Flight of Passage? Or is the popular attraction perfect just the way it is? Should the company mess with a good thing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or join the discussion on our KTP Facebook Page.
