California Adventure Park

Disney’s California Adventure Park had a complete overhaul before its reopening in June 2012. One of the many great additions to this park was Cars Land. This land transports Guests back to a simpler time as they take a trip down Route 66 and see iconic buildings from the Cars movies.

You can race through with Lightning McQueen, take a spin in Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, and even glide along with Luigi’s Rollickin Roadsters. You can even take in the beauty of Cars Land with these early sunrise views.

Be sure to check out this interview by the Imagineers that created this iconic Cars Land HERE.

Cozy Cone Motel

You can’t journey along Route 66 without a stop at the Cozy Cone Motel. Guests are invited to pull into Sally’s roadside motel made from, you guessed it, traffic cones. The theming throughout Cars Land is pretty spot on. It is amazing to see so many amazing details from the movies in real life.

There are five different “i-cone-ic” treat stands located in the five larger-than-life orange traffic cones. These include the following selections:

  • Cozy Cone Motel 1: Churros
  • Cozy Cone Motel 2: Ice Cream Cones
  • Cozy Cone Motel 3: Chili Cone Queso
  • Cozy Cone Motel 4: Frozen Cone-Coctions
  • Cozy Cone Motel 5: PopCone

Menu options include Popcorn, Cone Queso, Ice Cream Cones, and Churros. Except for the Churros, everything else is served in a cone.

Mobile Ordering

This dining location utilizes Mobile Ordering. We are BIG fans of Mobile Ordering, but this dining location was a bit more complicated for Mobile Ordering. We had to place multiple Mobile Orders when selecting items from the different cones.

We made our selections and received a message when each item was available for pickup. Although the different traffic cone pick-up windows are a clever design, this is not ideal when ordering a meal for a family.

We are BIG fans of Mobile Ordering, but this dining location was a bit more complicated for Mobile Ordering. We had to place multiple Mobile Orders when selecting items from the different cones.

We ordered food from two of the five cones, which meant that we then had to stand in the Mobile Order Pickup line at each of the cones to receive our order. This was a bit frustrating and chaotic, but we finally received all of the items we ordered.

Bacon Mac ‘n Cheese Cone

Since we began planning our trip to California Adventure, this has been the meal that my (Donna) children have been most excited to try. Like many children, our kids are big fans of mac ‘n cheese. Well, with a few exceptions. They like pretty basic mac ‘n cheese. Don’t try to add anything fancy into the mix for our crew.

I was a bit nervous that they may not enjoy this Mac ‘n Cheese cone that they had been dreaming about. As the meal arrived at our table, everyone fell silent. As the kids took one bite, and another, and yet another, I soon realized that the mac ‘n cheese was a huge hit.

This mac ‘n cheese is served in a bread cone. So if you can step away from the carb overload of this dish, this in a nutshell is the ultimate comfort food. All three of our children ate the mac ‘n cheese simultaneously with the bread cone until the very last bite. They even asked if we could order them again the following day.

Chili “Cone” Queso

My husband and I (Donna) both ordered the Chili Cone Queso. This featured beef chili, cheddar cheese, and corn chips all served in a bread cone. Just from reading the description, it sounds pretty perfect.

The chili was not the most note-worthy chili that I have eaten, but it was pretty good. The true beauty of this dish was the combination of each ingredient together. It was pure comfort food, and it exceeded our expectations.

You may be worried that the bread cone is not appetizing. Our experience could not be further from that! The bread cone was light and boasted a rich flavor with a soft texture. The bread cone was the proverbial icing on the cake for this hearty meal.

Churros

Disneyland is known for its churros, so we knew we had to try the churros at the Cozy Cone Motel. The featured churro often changes, and when we visited we enjoyed the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake churros.

These churros were light and absolutely decadent with the cream cheese icing.

This is the classic churro that we know and love but all dressed up. The churro is topped with peanut butter cream cheese icing and chocolate chips all served with a chocolate dipping sauce. These churros were light and decadent with the cream cheese icing. We wish that we could try a few of the other flavor options that are offered throughout the year.

Review

With so many delicious dining locations at Disneyland and California Adventure, is the Cozy Cone worth a visit? I would say YES! Once you get past the oddity of placing multiple mobile orders and picking up at various cones, this is a great meal. Something is charming about enjoying classic comfort food along “Route 66.”

Our oldest son is now a teenager, and it was fun to see him reminiscing in Cars Land as he loved these movies growing up. He stood at the Cozy Cone Motel lobby and took in all of the fun theming throughout. Mater came along while we were dining and it was an exciting highlight of our meal.

We would definitely add the Cozy Cone Motel to our touring plan next time we have the opportunity to visit California Adventure.
