Hacking Incident

Like most other companies, The Walt Disney Company has many social media accounts on various platforms. Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, shopDisney, Walt Disney Studios all have their own social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Hackers got into the official Disneyland account this morning, July 7. You can read our previous story on that HERE.

The first post went up at approximately 6:45 am Eastern Time on Instagram. Three posts and two stories with graphic content were posted and then taken down about an hour later. Due to the nature of such content, we will not share screenshots or text of what these posts say.

On Facebook, a single story with only one picture and no text was posted around the same time as the first Instagram posting. There is no text and has since been removed.

Three posts and two stories with graphic content were posted and then taken down about an hour later.

As of now, approximately 1:30 pm Eastern Time, all offensive posts by the hackers are removed. However, people on social media are still commenting about the incident on previous social media posts.

Statement

Disneyland released an official statement regarding the incident from earlier today.

“Disneyland Resort’s Facebook and Instagram accounts were compromised early this morning. We worked quickly to remove the reprehensible content, secure our accounts, and our security teams are conducting an investigation.”

I’m sure the public will never be made aware of the findings of that investigation, and that’s okay. There’s no need to name these hackers. We are glad to hear Disneyland took it seriously and regained security of their accounts.
