This new family-thrill coaster matches the and fun and thrill of the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films. It features our favorite cosmic outlaws: Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora and Star-Lord (a.k.a. Peter Quill). The one-of-a-kind attraction is another milestone in the ongoing transformation of EPCOT.

The height requirement for this attraction is 42″ . This is great news for many families!

Located in the park’s newly renamed World Discovery neighborhood, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT. Xandarians traveled from their world in the Andromeda Galaxy to Earth, or Terra.

Here, they invite EPCOT guests to learn more about their people and their advanced technologies. But, it doesn’t go according to plan, forcing the until the Xandarians to call on the Guardians of the Galaxy for help.

According to the back story, Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, visited EPCOT as a child and loved the experience so much, he suggested the Disney park as the perfect place for Xandarians to connect with Terrans. The Wonders of Xandar pavilion features three main sections.

The Galaxarium is a sweeping planetarium-style space connecting Terra and Xander that showcases planets, stars and other intergalactic wonders. The Xandarian supercomputer, Worldmind, provides narration in the Galaxarium and gives context to the stunning visuals.

Next, in the Xandar Gallery, guests learn more about the Xandarian people, culture and history. Here, heroes of Xandar are featured through displays including models of starships and a Xandarian city. In addition, the gallery displays excerpts from “Good Morning Xandar,” where a host interviews the Guardians of the Galaxy about their heroic deeds.

Then, the pavilion tour concludes in the Phase Chamber, where guests instantly teleport from EPCOT to a Nova Corps Starcharter cruiser orbiting Earth. Here, they learn about the Cosmic Generator, a piece of Xandarian technology that creates jump points. Guests travel through artificial tunnels in space allowing for rapid travel across distances in space.

Upon reaching the Starcharter, guests quickly realize things are not going according to plan. There are so many things going on! First, Eson, the villain, and a Celestial, has been watching Earth for eons. On this journey he intends to use the Cosmic Generator to jump back in time and change the course of humanity.

Next, the Nova Prime Irani Rael commands her top officer, Centurion Tal Marik, to seek help from the Guardians of the Galaxy once again. Then, the Terrans must evacuate the ship via Starjumper shuttles.

When the Guardians arrive on the scene, they reprogram the Starjumpers so guests can help them track down Eson. Guardians along with guests follow the Celestial through a jump point on an intergalactic chase to save the galaxy. As Drax points out bluntly, if they can’t help stop Eson, “then you are likely doomed.

Lots of Firsts

We’re so excited about all of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind firsts at EPCOT and Disney. This is the first coaster ever at EPCOT. In all of Disney theme parks, this is the first reverse launch ever!

Then, the controlled rotating Omnicoaster immerses guests in all of the exciting action. Although Disneyland transformed the Tower of Terror into a Guardians attraction, this is the first Disney World attraction featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Throwback Songs

Just like the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind uses classic pop music for this fun experience. Like Rock ‘n” Roller coaster, this attraction’s onboard audio blasts hit tunes. Also, Disney Imagineers tested more than 100 potential songs for the attraction.

Imagineers used a combination of virtual and physical rides to assess which tracks best matched the spirit and movement of the coaster, finally choosing six 1970’s and 1980’s songs in their original classic versions:

  • “September”
  • “Disco Inferno”
  • “Conga”
  • “Everybody Wants to Rule the World”
  • “I Ran”
  • “One Way or Another”

Guests won’t know which song they’ll hear each time they ride until they jump into space with the Guardians.

How Long Will You Wait?

As of late May 2022, there are two options for boarding Cosmic Rewind. 1. You can get a Boarding Group at 7am or 2. You can purchase the Individual Lightning Lane Option (ILL). There is no stand by option. If you have fast fingers or another person in your group with a phone, you can use both options.

DAS users MUST have one of the above listed options!

If you use the Boarding Group and you receive a boarding group of around 30 or higher, you should expect to wait at least 30 minutes before merging with the guests using the ILL. It’s not a painful wait because you’re entertained in the queue very well.

ILL and DAS users should not have to wait much at all. The only time I’ve waited using this option was when the coaster had down time. You’ll skip the entire queue.

Xandar Merchandise

Next, let’s take a look at all the out-of-this-world merchandise. After exciting the ride, look for accessories, home décor, collectibles and toys at the Treasures of Xandar shop inside Wonders of Xandar pavilion. The Xandarians hired The Broker to operate this new merchandise location on Terra. Check out each collection below:

What if the Guardians were rock stars? Inspired by vintage concert merchandise of the 1980s, the Heroes of Xandar Collection imagines all of the gear and memorabilia fans would collect during the Guardians’ fictional intergalactic tour.

The 1980s nostalgia continues with a bold and colorful line celebrating Peter Quill’s childhood visit to EPCOT. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Through the Eyes of Quill Collection features retro silhouettes and graphic designs from decades past.

After helping save the galaxy, guests of all ages are invited to show off their new hero status with the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind – Honorary Guardians Collection. The Groot Through the Years Collection celebrates the tree-like beloved creature and his journey to becoming a defender of the galaxy. The collection, which includes toys, home décor and children’s apparel, illustrates Groot’s evolution from baby to adolescent to adult.
