Storyliving Community
Back in February, Disney first announced that they would begin testing a new community type in California that allows you to live in the “Disney Bubble” all the time. Called “Storyliving by Disney“, this community is run by the same division that oversees the theme parks and cruise line.
It includes 1,900 houses and is located just outside Palm Springs, California in a place called Rancho Mirage. Disney promises more communities to come! You can read all about the amazing amenities and housing options that are available HERE.
This was Walt Disney’s original vision for EPCOT to create a residential community. Many Disney fans were ecstatic to learn of this new residential community and wondered when work would begin. We have great news for the beginning of this new project.
BIG Milestone
The first location chosen for this Storyliving community is in the Coachella Valley. Palm Springs was one of Walt Disney’s personal retreats where he owned a home and spent time with his family. This first community, Cotina, will be located near Palm Springs in Rancho Mirage.
This past Tuesday, April 26, 2022, Disney broke ground for the first Storyliving community in Cotino. The ceremony marks the official beginning of this big project. As if this groundbreaking was not enough, Disney has now officially announced an opening timeline for this community.
The groundbreaking was truly a pivotal moment to begin this project. Walt Disney Imaginnering shared this on Instagram,“Imagineers joined the groundbreaking ceremony today for Cotino, a Storyliving by Disney community being brought to life alongside world-class designers and developers in Rancho Mirage, CA.“
“Michael Hundgen, Exec Producer, shared how the project team is drawing on the region’s past and present to inspire the story of Cotino – one that is connected to the natural beauty and rich history of Coachella Valley, as well as its continued influence in arts, music, and culture.”
The best part of this groundbreaking was not simply the official start of this project, but we now have an opening timeline. According to Disney Imagineers, Cotino will welcome residents in early 2024.
We are so excited to have an opening timeline for this first-ever Disney Storyliving Community. It truly sounds like a dream. Perhaps the next big announcment will be the pricepoint for living in this “Happily Ever After” community.
