Thinking you’re going to get a full experience when you drop hundreds on a custom lightsaber or droid? Think again. More upsetting changes come to Galaxy’s Edge.
Galaxy’s Edge
Supply chain issues are hitting Disney World hard. First, the nice carrying bags for lightsabers built at Savi’s are currently out of stock. Disney has tried to remedy the situation by offering a 10% discount on the lightsabers. However, with a high price tag of over $219, the small discount does little to appease upset Guests.
If you’re thinking of heading over to Tatooine Traders to build a cheaper lightsaber there, you may be out of luck as well. Earlier in December, I went in to build one with my children only to find they were all out. A Cast Member shared that they don’t have the parts for it, and the experience is closed until they can get more in.
It seems holiday crowds have come and gone and taken all the merchandise with them. Now, another Galaxy’s Edge experience is facing supply chain issues that is affecting the Guest experience.
Droids
Have you ever wanted to build your very own droid? You can at Droid Depot where a fun experience offers you the chance to customize your droid to your own likes and preferences.
These droids are expensive – costing about $100 for each one. First you will assemble your droid and then it be paired with a remote for activation. Watch it come to life! Instructions and a carrying box are included…well the carrying box was included.
No more carrying boxes
Carrying boxes are not currently included in your droid purchase and activation. It appears that supply chain issues have affected another great experience in Galaxy’s Edge. The Disney website still states the box is included, so this is likely only a temporary issue. But, how temporary? And, how is Disney remedying the situation?
So far we do not know when Disney will receive another shipment of carrying boxes for the droid. At the moment, Cast Members are giving Guests regular clear merchandise bags to hold their precious cargo. Additionally, we have not anything about Disney offering a discount due to this shortage.
However, if there is one thing that Disney fans do well is let the company know when they are upset. After a major outcry following the lightsaber case, Disney began offering the discount. Maybe if we are loud again, they will offer the same for the droids.
Will you cancel your droid reservation if there are no carrying boxes included? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.

We were also there the week after Thanksgiving and made a droid for my son (it came with a box)This was on Monday, Nov. 29th. It was very crowded, but an ok experience. On Wed. Dec. 1st, 5 of us made light sabers. THAT was a LOT of fun as we had our grandkids with us and I was singled out because I made an Old Order Saber. We received our sheaths on the way out. I didn't hear any talk of shortages. Traders was fully stocked with the cheaper versions also. I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience.

Sorry and by the light saber experience, I meant the ones at the end of Star Tours.

We went the week after Thanksgiving 2021. The light saber experience was closed then. We also didn’t get a carrying box for our 3 Droids. They gave us bags. Luckily our reservation was at 8:50pm, so we weren’t walking around all day. So this was not just a case of holiday crowds taking all the merchandise.

You should expect a smaller Droid to match the latest restaurant offerings (smaller portions, higher prices). I suspect Chepak will start charging use for silverware next.
The bag issue is just test marketing; Disney (Chepak) is just trying to see what they can get away with.

Increase the price by 10% and then take off 10%. Sounds like a bargain. But then what did I expect.....
