After a long span of virtual-only races, runDisney has returned to in person racing! in-person races resumed in November for the 2021 with Disney Wine and Dine Half-Marathon Weekend.

Disney is also bringing back Marathon Weekend in January! These sold out races kick-off January 5th.

For 2022, runDisney decided to treat race fans to a 50th Anniversary treat on March 31-April 3: The Springtime Surprise. Walt Disney World invites fans to run down familiar courses inspired by fan-favorite races, including Expedition Everest 5K, Race for the Taste 10K and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler—with some added twists and turns.

The Expedition Everest 5k sounds particularly fun as it is a night time race, and it is combination race and scavenger hunt! The unique event had many runners yeti to register.

However, when registration day came on December 9th at 2:00 PM, registration became a race. Many fans were startled and disappointed by the turn of events.

The registration links went live a few minutes before the 2:00 Eastern registration time. Guests were placed in waiting rooms.

As 2:00 struck, notifications of wait room times popped up, giving race hopefuls an approximate wait time. I was lucky as mine said “less than one minute.” However, those who signed in even a few minutes later were receiving 20 minute or more wait times.

The Expedition Everest 5k did not stick around long. The race sold out in about thirty minutes, leaving many disappointed that they were unable to register.

The runDisney Springtime Surprise Challenge was next to sell out. This event challenges participants to take on all 3 running events: the 5K, 10K and 10-Miler—for a total of 19.3 magical miles! For some, it was the only way to register for the sold out 5k.

Remaining Experiences

The Race for the Taste 10K also still has availability. The registration fee for this one is $135.

Finally, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler still has availability as well. This race is $190.
