Family Purchases $10,000 in Disney Gift Cards by Mistake

A family purchased $10,000 in Disney gift cards to go on their dream Disney vacation, only to realize a terrible mistake! This family is hoping their mistake will be a lesson to all to read the fine print.

Disney gift cards are a great way to save some money for your Disney vacation! They can be used for food, merchandise, your resort stay and more! A lot of holiday deals are happening now, so take advantage of any that you come across.

One family had a great idea to use those Disney gift cards towards their vacation. TikToker @aofthecoast shared a story about her family on TikTok. In the viral video, she explains that her family had originally intended to go to Walt Disney World in 2020. Of course, those plans were put on hold after the pandemic.

“We finally planned it for this Christmas. All 16 of my family members were going. To save some money, my parents bought 10k of Disney gift cards to purchase our tickets and restaurant reservations,” Andie explained.

$10,000 in gift cards would be a huge help for a Disney vacation! However, later that day, Andie discovered a terrible mistake.

A Terrible Mistake

The family ended up having problems with loading the gift cards and purchasing their tickets. That’s when she discovered all $10k worth of those gift cards were actually for Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+! She was devastated and who can blame her? Can you imagine if this happened to you?

In the video, she said, “We leave in 6 days and the parks are selling out of tickets because it’s Christmas. My mom is distraught, Dad frustrated, and the kids worried we won’t get into Disney.”

How Disney Responded

After the video was posted, it went viral with thousands of people reaching out and sending her recommendations on what to do. Another problem was that since the family had already tried loading the gift cards into Disney’s website, all of those cards were ineligible to return. Disney responded in less than 24 hours!

“Disney reached out to the family and were able to “turn the $10,000 of Disney streaming gift cards into $10,000 of Disney Parks gift cards.”
