We hate seeing entertainment come to an end. But, we are hopeful something new and amazing is on the horizon! Disney just confirmed the unfortunate closure of one stage show.

Live Entertainment

One thing that sets Disney apart from other amusement parks is the live entertainment. Disney incorporates live entertainment with the use of stage shows, fireworks, character meet and greets, and “pop-up” acts like live bands.

No one does it on the scale that Disney does. And, it seems like everywhere you turn there is some type of live show or act to watch.

Unfortunately, closing shows and planning new ones is necessary to keep the parks fresh for Guests. If you travel to Disney often, you may appreciate this. But, if you only get to visit once or every couple years, it can be disappointing.

As you may have already guessed from the title of the show, “Tale of the Lion King” tells the story of how a cub became king of the Pride Lands. Storytelling, dance, and music bring the show to life as Guests immerse themselves in this classic story.

It is similar to Festival of the Lion King in that it tells the story of Simba, but that is where the similarities end. While Festival of the Lion King incorporates puppetry and acrobatics, Tale of the Lion King is more of a traditional stage show.

The 25-minute long show runs 4 times per day at Disneyland Park.

Closure

The show debuted last summer and will end its run at the end of the day on January 7, 2024. Typically, Disney runs new shows often so we are hopeful that a new show is planned!

Because Disneyland is more of a “locals” park whereas Disney World is more of a “tourists” park, keeping the experience fresh for Guests is more of a necessity at Disneyland. You may remember the Captain America musical at California Adventure only ran for a few short months.

This is just the nature of live entertainment at Disneyland. If you are hoping to catch Tale of the Lion King before it’s gone before, make sure you visit before January 8!
