By now, Disney+ needs no introduction. The streaming service has been in homes across America and World-Wide for several years.

However, recently there has been a bit of a fan uproar as Disney+ began removing a large chunk of original content from the platform. You can see a list of everything that was removed in the recent purge here and read some rationale for it here.

Additionally, there have been cancelations of several series. Most recently, fans found out there would be a similar fate for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. You can read about it here.

And the cuts keep coming. Now another movie has vanished.

The most recent removal is a movie that has only recently been added to the streaming service. Crater is a Disney+ Original that only recently (and quietly) arrived on Disney+ on May 12, 2023.

The science fiction film tells the story of a boy who was raised in a lunar mining colony and is about to be permanently relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following the death of his father. But before leaving, to fulfill his dad’s last wish, he and his best friends hijack a rover for one final adventure on a journey to explore a mysterious crater.

Or at least, that was the story it told until recently. Now, the film, which reportedly cost $53.4 million to create, has vanished from the platform. It was not even available for two full months. So, if you were planning on watching it eventually, it seems that eventually just turned into never. It arrived and departed before many viewers even realized it was avaliable.

Disney has given no official statement in terms of why the film was removed. However, it is highly likely that it ties back to the removal announced during the Second Quarter Earnings Call. And, if that is indeed the case, then it is entirtely possible that Disney decided the movie was underperforming in its short run.

Will more conent vanish before its all said and done? Only time will tell. Know that we will be here to keep you updated at kennythepirate.com.

Don't need physical media. Download copies and set up a Plex server and you have your own streaming service with no restrictions and nothing getting removed.

More umpteenth proof of why we need to keep physical media in our lives, and why we should not be too complacent and reliant on streaming services that can censor or take away anything at any given time. The more viewers that can realize this truth, the less likely our society will fall into a 'you'll own nothing and you'll be happy' mentality. Of course the facts that physical media has both superior video and sound as well as no intrusions on end credits (unless one watches Disney+ on a Roku with Airplay, that is), and the fact that Disney like many big media companies have gone on full-on progressively biased agendas all do not help, either.

Loved & agree with your comment! I think you meant “exorbitant” amounts of money. I’m not sure “obsorbiant” is an English word. Regardless, I don’t understand how Disney can burn through STOCKHOLDERS CASH without repercussions. KK still has a job & both her & Iger are squandering money & “reputation” at a blistering rate. How is it permitted? Somebody’s gotta be pissed At losing millions in their portfolio. Yet this keeps going & going.

Actually I also heard memory may be a factor but I don't know if it's the case for Disney Plus like it is fir Netflix.

I see. Do you think they'll bring stuff back or move them to Hulu.
