Fantasmic!

Fantasmic! is a nighttime show performed at Disneyland Park in Disneyland and Hollywood Studios in Disney World. The premise of the show is that Mickey is transported into a dream where he dances along with music, lighting effects, and pyrotechnics. Various characters and scenes from popular Disney movies are part of the sequence as well.

The show takes a bad turn as Mickey is asked to enter the darker realms of his imagination. Maleficent turns out to be the mastermind behind the trap as she wishes to take over Mickey’s dream. Various villains are part of this sequence as he fights the evil dragon.

The overall story is the same for both Disneyland and Disney World, with a only a few minor differences involving the show scenes. Overall, the show is so amazingly done. The storyline has plenty of excitement and drama, and the visual features will keep your attention

You can read more about the difference between the two shows HERE and my review of the Fantasmic! dining package at Disneyland HERE.

Fire

A fire broke out unexpectedly during Saturday night’s showing of Fantasmic! in Disneyland. Fire is used each night during the show, and it is usually a well-controlled special effect.

However, during Saturday night’s performance, during Mickey’s fight with the dragon, something unexpected occurred. The Maleficent dragon caught fire, and flames eventually engulfed it.

Disneyland Park Cast Members acted to evacuate the show as well as the surrounding areas. The Anaheim Fire Department responded to the scene as well. It looks as if substantial damage has occurred.

In addition to the updated showtimes, Disneyland released a statement today:

During the final showing of Fantasmic at Disneyland Park on Saturday evening, the dragon prop caught fire. Anaheim Fire & Rescue quickly responded, and the fire was extinguished. All cast members were safely evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island. Due to smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely evacuated of any guests, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.

We are temporarily suspending fire effects similar to those used at Disneyland park’s Fantasmic at select shows and entertainment experiences globally out of an abundance of caution following the Fantasmic prop fire at Disneyland Park. The continued safety of our cast and guests is the utmost importance.

The only impact for the fire effect suspension is the Maleficent float on the Festival of Fantasy parade at Magic Kingdom. There are no planned temporary changes at Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic! at this time.

We are thankful there are no injuries to report and that Disney is keeping guests safe around the world. We will update with any changes and when Maleficent’s fire returns.

Maleficent’s fire effects will be turned off at the Magic Kingdom for the Festival of Fantasy parade. There are no planned changes at Hollywood Studios’ showing of Fantasmic!
