NBA at Disney World

This year the NBA held the remainder of their season at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. They were “contained” inside a bubble to help keep players safe throughout the season.

The season started on July 30, 2020 and finished last night. Games were held at the following locations at Walt Disney World: the Arena, the Field House, and the Visa Athletic Center at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

NBA Will Use Season to Call Attention to Social Issues

Disney was excited to be able to host this unique opportunity for the NBA. Chairman of Disney Parks, Josh D’Amaro, stated, 

“We’re glad to be able to provide a unique venue where the NBA can resume its season at ESPN Wide World of Sports. We look forward to welcoming players, coaches and staff to Walt Disney World Resort as they prepare for the exciting return of professional basketball.”

Hotels Used to House Players

The NBA players were designated three hotels to stay at during the completion of their season. Players stayed at The Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, and Grand Destino Tower.

These hotels were the only places for players to stay to help limit exposure to COVID-19. To read more about hotels used for players read HERE.

Los Angeles Lakers WIN

Last night Disney added a little more magic to the Los Angeles Lakers win. Cinderella Castle was lit up in the team’s primary colors of purple and gold.

The NBA Finals concluded on game 6 with Lakers winning over the Miami Heat. They won out of the 22 teams that came to Walt Disney World to compete for a spot in the NBA Playoffs.

What a way to end the 2019-2020! Three months and 205 total games later the NBA had on spectacular way to end their season. Congratulations to the LA Lakers!
