With the seriousness of this potentially deadly storm, theme parks and other non-essential businesses are closing.
All Orlando area theme parks are closing at 5pm on Thursday October 6, 2016 and will remain closed through all of Friday, October 7 due to the impact of Hurricane Matthew. The hurricane is expected to reach the eastern shores of Florida later today and the winds coming from the storm could create issues inland as well.
Many local businesses are following suit and closing this evening and tomorrow. If you are evacuating, be prepared for long delays and be patient on the roads. If you are staying in the area, make sure you have a good supply of food and water.
If you are staying in a local resort, contact your front desk concerning food services available.

A couple of helpful reminders:
- Always treat at dead stoplight as a 4 way stop in Florida
- Never touch or approach a downed powerline as it could be active
- Stay off the roads during and immediately following the hurricane to allow emergency workers to do their jobs.
- Many local food stores and gas stations are now closed and many are out of food and gas.
It’s best that you evacuate immediately or stay indoors until we are given an all clear. We should treat this seriously, but always have hope for the best case scenario.
For those wondering, we live West of the theme park zone and we are fully prepared with food, water and such to survive any possible power outages. I’ll do my best to update you following the hurricane as well. Stay safe!!!
KTP, have you heard what they are doing in terms of reimbursement for lost day of park time on Friday and what about Friday fastpasses? Will we be able to use them on saturday? thanks!
FP are just gone. They will work with you in ticket situation

Have been reading and absorbing / enjoying your posts for months as I’ve been planning a three generation trip later this month. Your help in learning all the “new ropes” since our last visit has been invaluable! My daughter lives in Jacksonville. You are all in my thoughts. I hope you and all in Florida remain safe!!
Did your daughter evacuate?
No. She is not in the evacuation zone though she knows several who are. Like you, she thinks she will be ok. Nice of you to inquire. I sincerely hope all will be ok!
I pray she is okay. We are far more inland.
