Disney Parks Just Canceled a Popular Discount
Disney fans are unhappy with another change at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Disney quietly and suddenly canceled a popular discount.
Saving Money On Disney Vacations
Is there anyone out there who does not enjoy saving money now and then? Savvy travelers know that every dollar adds up.
Many of our long-time readers have become extremely crafty when it comes to saving money on Disney vacations. From using discounted Disney gift cards to pay for everything from hotel rooms to tickets to cruises to crunching the numbers to see if an annual pass is worth it, you are in the know when it comes to deals.
Unfortunately, Disney just closed the door on one discount that saved fans a few precious Disney dollars now and then. This comes on the heels of multiple price increases that hit today. Alas, the Mouse giveth, and the Mouse taketh away.
Disney Closes a Discount Loophole
Walt Disney World and Disneyland do not typically offer dining discounts at quick service restaurants and snack stands. This means that if you want a soda or a bottled water, you have to pay inflated theme park prices.
However, many Disney fans found that they could use discounts on bottled soft drinks and water sold inside gift shops and merchandise locations in the parks and at resort hotels. This discount could help guests save 50 cents to a dollar on beverage purchases.
For many guests, this might not seem like a lot, but for others, those dollars really add up over the years. Unfortunately, this clever way to save a little money has now come to a halt.
What Happened?
Today, guests at Walt Disney World and Disneyland were unpleasantly surprised to find they can no longer use their Disney discounts to purchase bottled drinks in gift shops and merchandise locations.
The discounts will still apply to merchandise purchases, but they will not be applied to drinks. This includes DVC discounts, Annual Passholder Discounts, Magic Key Discounts, and Disney Visa discounts.
You can no longer use DVC, AP, Magic Key, or Disney Visa discounts to purchase bottled drinks at Disney World.
This is doubtless disappointing news for those who have enjoyed these discounts in the past. It was a clever way to maximize the perks, and we are sad to see it go.
If you want to save on beverages, we have ideas. You can still get unlimited counter service waters. Guests can also sample beverages at Club Cool. DVC members can enjoy drinks in DVC lounges, and APs can enjoy seasonal freebies at EPCOT lounges. And you can still save a little money at Table Service locations. Lastly, adults can still order kids' quick-service meals, and they typically come with soft drinks if you like.
Are you going to miss discounts on bottled drinks at Disney Parks? Or is it not such a big deal to you? Feel free to contribute to the discussion in the comments. And be sure to share this news piece with family and friends so that they can manage their expectations when they visit the parks.
