Orlando International Airport (MCO) anticipated the airport to continue with normal operations even with the government shutdown.

Unfortunately, travelers experienced significant delays last week when MCO experienced an air traffic controller shortage.

The FAA released a list of 40 major airports that will be seeing a 10% in flight reduction. This could cut thousands of flights daily. To see all airports that were listed read HERE.

This evening, MCO released a statement on their social medias. See the statement below:

"The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has not received official notification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding a decrease of flight activity in response to the Federal Government Shutdown. Based on various reports, MCO is identified as one of the 40 U.S. airports that will have flight reductions beginning Friday, November 7; however, this has not been confirmed by the FAA. We encourage travelers to contact their airlines directly for questions and flight status. The airport will remain fully staffed to assist in anyway possible."

Orlando International Airport is popular for travelers visiting Disney World or Universal Orlando. If you will be traveling for an upcoming Disney or Universal vacation soon, be sure to check directly with your airline for any possible delays or cancellations.

Also, plan to get to the airport even earlier than usual. Lines and TSA wait times have been long at some of the major airports.
