Warning: Orlando International Airport Experiencing Delays Due to Air Traffic Controller Shortage

Orlando International Airport (MCO for short) is a busy airport. Many people traveling to or from Disney World or Universal Orlando use this airport as it is only about a half hour away.
It can be helpful to download the MCO app when traveling through the airport. The MCO app features current TSA wait times, parking location reminders, the ability to track multiple flights, and more.
MCO is consistently listed in the top 10 busiest airports in the United States due to the number of travelers visiting Central Florida. At over 11,000 acres, it is also one of the largest airports.
Government Shutdown

On October 1, 2025, the United States Government shutdown. Orlando International Airport had released a statement regarding the airport's operations, and the impact it could have on travelers.
Orlando International Airport anticipated normal operations during the shutdown.

Air Traffic Controller Shortage

At the time of this writing, MCO is experience an average delay of 161 minutes. This delay is because of a ground delay program that has been put in place due to air traffic controller staffing shortages in Orlando. See the post below:

At some point tonight it is possible, that for a time, no planes will be able to land at MCO. This is anticipated because there will be no certified air traffic controllers available at the airport.
