Why New Disney Entertainment Has Us Worried for Frontierland

Have you noticed the big shift at Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland? Find out why Big Thunder Mountain Railroad may no longer be the wildest ride in the wilderness when it reopens.

Now hear us out, why would we be worried about brand new entertainment at Magic Kingdom? This sounds like a really good thing, right?

Walt Disney World continues to add great and surprising entertainment and characters for “Cool Kid Summer”. Check out our full guide HERE. Yesterday, we shared a fun new way to interact with Daisy over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Now, Frontierland has a new pop-up musical ensemble known as Nola and the Eighth Notes. This lively ensemble brings the sounds of New Orleans to Frontierland. Performing daily between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm, you can enjoy the main singer, Nola, and her band, including a tuba, trombone, and a snare drum.

Now we love this new entertainment group. They bring jazz and Mardi Gras music and even perform some of our favorite songs from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog”.

The concern we have (if you don’t mind the Disney pun) is to “Dig a Little Deeper” into the way that Frontierland is changing. We had the first change when Splash Mountain turned into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and Louisiana was included in the “Wild West” vibe of Frontierland.

Secondly, the former Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade transformed into McKim’s Mile House, a private lounge for Disney Vacation Club Members.

This leads to the removal of the Rivers of America, which removes both the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island. This will be replaced by the new Cars attractions, creating Piston Peak National Park.

Disney has also teased that “new magic” will be coming to the extended refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We are curious to see what the look of Frontierland will be with so many changes to the “Wild West” theme that this land has held since the park first opened in 1971.
