It can be scary getting stuck on a ride and downright terrifying if you are stuck high in the air for an extended period. That’s just what happened to some Universal parkgoers.

Unfortunately, ride breakdowns can happen from time to time. Usually, these tend to be short and most Guests aren’t impacted much.

However, sometimes these breakdowns can be for extended periods. Depending on the ride, it may also take time to get the riders safely evacuated from the ride. This may not be the behind-the-scenes look that some Guests hope for.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a roller coaster in Universal Studios at Universal Orlando. It allows riders to select a song to listen to as they climb, loop, and plummet over Universal!

The ride is probably best known for its terrifying vertical ascent. It presents an intimidating visual as riders approach, and it is every bit as thrilling (or terrifying) as one would imagine to travel STRAIGHT UP (yes straight up, a full 90 degrees!) with your back parallel to the ground.

Rip Ride and Rockit climbs a total of 17 stories. But did you know that this coaster broke records? It was the first coaster in the world to have a non-inverting loop!

This summer, Universal made this BIG reduction to the ride.

On Thanksgiving night, around 8:30 pm, Rip Ride Rockit stopped mid-ride! Riders were stuck suspended high in the air. The riders were almost to the top of the lift, which you can see in the picture above.

Around 8:30 pm on Thanksgiving night, riders on Rip Ride Rockit got stuck in the vertical position for almost an hour.

Firefighters were called to the scene for “technical issues.” There were a total of 24 passengers that needed to be evacuated. They were stuck for almost an hour! Fortunately, all of them were safely removed from the ride.
