Guests watching Fantasmic! last night were in for a surprise when the show didn’t go off quite how we are use to. Find out what happened and how the show was altered.
Fantasmic!
Fantasmic! is a nighttime show performed at Disneyland Park in Disneyland and Hollywood Studios in Disney World. The premise of the show is that Mickey is transported into a dream where he dances along with music, lighting effects, and pyrotechnics. Various characters and scenes from popular Disney movies are part of the sequence as well.
The show takes a bad turn as Mickey is asked to enter the darker realms of his imagination. Maleficent turns out to be the mastermind behind the trap as she wishes to take over Mickey’s dream. Various villains are part of this sequence as he fights the evil dragon.
Previous Fantasmic! Incident
In April, a fire broke out unexpectedly during a showing of Fantasmic! in Disneyland. The Maleficent dragon caught fire, and flames eventually engulfed it. The show has remained closed since this incident.
Initially, Disneyland released the following statement: “Our goal is to always deliver the best possible show for our guests. With that in mind, we have made the difficult decision to put Fantasmic! on hiatus through at least Labor Day.“

Altered Show at Disney World
On Monday, October 30, the dragon prop got stuck on stage! They kept the stage dark and the water effects continued through the end of the show. At the very end Mickey appeared at the side of the stage versus front and center.
Unfortunately, it seems that the dragon has continued to cause technical difficulties. Last night, November 1, the dragon prop DID NOT make an appearance. Maleficent, as herself, remained out on the stage the entire time! Check out the video below:
As you can see in the video, Maleficent stays up on the elevated platform as he fights her human form versus her dragon form to take back control of his dream.
On both occasions, Disney did a great job altering the show to not lose any essence of it. If you had never been, you might not have even noticed the change. Hopefully, they will be able to fix whatever is causing the dragon to not work properly, as this is one of the best parts of the show.
The dragon did not make an appearance during the 8:30 PM showing of Fantasmic!
