Florida Passes A New Bill Against Disney World

Florida Passes A New Bill Against Disney World

Just one day after Disney sues Florida, the Senate passes a new bill.

Development Agreement

I won't rehash all of the tension that built up in 2022 before Florida officially took over Disney World's Reedy Creek Improvement District.

Just before the handover took place, Disney tried one last ditch effort to keep as much control out of the state of Florida as possible. Just recently, Disney made an agreement between the district and the parks/resorts.

This new agreement basically gives Disney most of the control of the district and prevents the new oversight board from making any changes to this agreement until 21 years after the death of the last survivor of King Charles III.

At a recent press conference, DeSantis shared that he is planning to announce even more measures against Disney World. The first being his plans to void the contract between the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Board (previously Reedy Creek Improvement District) and Disney World regarding Disney's development rights for many, many years. Now, everything will be passed through the State Legislature.

Disney Sues

On April 26, Disney sued the state of Florida stating:

"A targeted campaign of government retaliation - orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney's protected speech - now threatens Disney's business, operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights."

You can read our story on that right here.

Yesterday evening, the Florida Senate passed SB 1604. In that bill, there is a small piece that basically allows that agreement I wrote about above to be reversed. Next, it will go to the House where it will likely be passed as well.

With Disney suing Florida, Mickey and Co. will not take this lying down. It will now go through the courts.

What do you think of Florida passing this bill? Do you think it's too much? Share your thoughts with us below. Do you know someone who may be interested in reading about this? Pass it along to them!

  1. Don't leave Connie. We just need to group together and vote out all of this red that has gathered here

  2. We who. I know I surely DID NOT! Stop this outfight life that ALL of us want these racist, ignorant jackasses in office. Florida government right now is a serious joke and being Florida born and bred; I'm so embarrassed and ashamed.

  3. The bill did not protect our children. It keeps teachers from talking freely about our real world. Public school is supposed to teach and expose our children to the real world. Like the statue of David. Public school is not supposed to teach anyone’s personal version of life. If a child has two mom’s and says so in the classroom, under the bill, teacher can’t respond. The teacher should be able to say something along the lines of parents come in varying types, because in today’s society, that’s true. And when children are in the real world, they will meet those varied people, and varied parents. Instead, in FL, that student is left standing alone with no teacher giving simple humane support. Leaves the child vulnerable to being bullied. Hey, their family is different. Differences are what make up a diverse society. We are all better off when we acknowledge our differences and try to understand each other. When we don’t, we breed hate. Not good for any of us.

  4. So you think it’s okay for the government to tell corporations what they can and cannot say? You think it’s okay for government to bully a corporation because the company spoke out about an issue that concerns their employees, visitors, and every company and person in the state? If you think that FL government behavior retaliating against Disney for free speech is okay, you really don’t believe in freedom. Simple as that. Disney enjoyed the same types of corporate perks we give other companies to keep and attract them to this state. It was a good relationship between the state and the company for economic reasons until the FL governor thought he’d get a political advantage by taking a stand against Disney’s free speech. FL gov’t is trying to control Disney and Disney content. Based on when this started and the governors responses, it’s very clear FL government is retaliating and bullying a company that provides a huge part of the state’s employment and revenue. This is an example of government not liking a company that keeps our gov’t from overstepping it’s bounds. Good gov’t is supposed to protect all it’s people, not pick and choose who they like. We weren’t big Disney fans, but now we are. We like companies that stand up to bad gov’t. Go Disney!

  5. I don’t think teaching about God to our children is the same as grooming boy to be girls or girls become boys. And if you think this is the same. I will pray for you like it or not

  6. Horseshit.
“As the largest single taxpayer in Central Florida, Walt Disney World Resort contributed $1.146 billion in total state and local taxes paid and collected for 2022.”

Or would you prefer to have the original orange groves and swamp lands?

  7. There will be a war in the world because it's like discrimination it's the same as saying blacks can't live in Florida and that's a discrimination right there as well and it's like freedom is being taken away as well and that's not right and people should have a right to protest if they want as well and say how they feel cuz we all gods children and people no matter what and also more suicidal attempts may happen and feel uncomfortable when they finally could come out of the closet and now have to go backwards that's not right and this world is not right and turning colder and also feels like hell for sure now and also bian promised america people won't have to suffer nomore now what's this world coming to it's suffering badly and no matter how you look at it noone is for the people they about what they think and should do not what the people have to say and feel and their concerns this world is going to have a war soon cuz of the bill passed and all so this is all wrong in beliefs and all and shouldnt have to be this way and shouldn't have to be forced to be turned away jut cuz of a trans and also there are good and bad people in the world and they discriminating rights that shouldn't be and all people should live the way they want and legal not illegal ways like good and bad are choices now we gonna have a lot of haters in this world that's wrong for what's going on period

  8. They can just leave the state. Since their special zone existed to entice them into the state.
Ask Florida residents if they want Disney to leave Florida. They'll vote Desantis out in seconds rather than lose those jobs

  9. Kind of like how Biden does things? BTW. The majority of people agree. You are in the minority. Enjoy it.

  10. Do you people just rattle off at the mouth having no idea of what is actually going on? Yes you do. They are not telling Disney what to do or what content they can have. They are removing the SPECIAL treatment and advantages Disney has had for 60 years over any other business or entity in the state. If you want to leave the state then by all means move on. Not one singular person will care. Move to the cesspool of California amongst the other twits. Or maybe Portland and you can be begging for police protection from the drug addicts on the streets. Grow up and stop acting like a child.

  11. Andbthis is why dusney is suing. Disney isnt a pedophile groomer and you're saying uts in retaliation fir Disney's political view

  12. I see a lot people talking out of both sides of their mouths. On one hand people say that the government needs to be running Disney and it shouldn't be running itself and it's perfectly fine for the government to go after them for disagreeing with them and stoping donations to their campaigns, but on the other hand they say that when government interferes too much with business it never ends well and crying about the weaponization of government. Seems like too many people change their views based on whichever way the wind blows in the cult camp.

  13. How does the State of Florida have the right to control Disney's content. Oh the same way that the State of Florida has the right to tell me as a woman what I'm allowed to do and not do. Time to leave this state.

  14. I wish desantis would stop saying the people's will. We never even had a chance to vote or be part of ALL his decisions not ours

  15. Disney has been robbing Central Florida of revenue since it’s opening in 1971. No other business gets the tax breaks and self control that they have benefited from. While they have been a boom to Florida tourism, they had no business trying to become political and misrepresent the bill passed to protect our innocent school children and their parent’s rights to shield them from inappropriate teacher’s perverted agendas. Had they just stayed on the political sidelines, this “feud” would never have begun.

  16. Would you consider yourself a god fearing Christian Wanda? Do you encourage your children to go church? Did you start teaching them about God at an early age? If so then you also fall under the same category of a Groomer LOL

  17. Rob Hunter is correct nothing ends well when businesses get into politics - especially for emotional decisions instead of for legal ones. Now DeSantis is over stepping and getting emotional, on his end, with making decisions. They should both put down their swords and try a compromise. Disney always did a fantastic job keeping their territory clean, safe, and well maintained. Doesn't DeSantis know his steps are only going to cost the taxpayers and out of state guest more money? Disney as all companies pass the buck to the consumer never themselves.

  18. DeSantis is simply an egocentric pathetic child but by virtue has all the credentials to be the next President LOL.

  19. That being said Desantis has made these “political” decisions completely personal so we can only hope that he gets put in his place . Going personally after one of the largest tourism attractions offered in your state is completely insane. I have spent slot of my hard earned money on vacations to Florida and if Desantis madness continues my money will head to California . Many of his decisions affect tourists and tax payors, how can anyone possibly support such a power hungry ego maniac?

  20. All of this could have been avoided had Disney concentrated on making the guest experience the best the money could buy...but no, they had to get into politics and emotional decisions never end well.
