Weather Forecast Discussion

High pressure remains in control as we head to the weekend and continue our stretch of unseasonably warm weather. A storm system will head through the Mid Atlantic and Northeast on Friday bringing snow and ice to those areas. The front associated with that storm system will slowly approach Central Florida.

Warm air will continue to surge ahead of that front for Friday through Sunday. The front will finally make it through the Orlando area late Sunday and Monday as a wave of low pressure may develop along the front.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible as this low develops on Monday. Certainly not a washout, just something to be aware of.

Severe Weather Chances For Florida

No severe weather is expected through the forecast period. While any thunderstorm can produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours, the isolated thunderstorms that could develop Monday are expected to remain below severe criteria.

Flight Impacts

I added this category recently to point out any large-scale impacts on flights getting to and from Orlando. The struggles and impacts on the airline industry in the wake of the pandemic that led to flight cancellations have been well-documented. I’m focusing on the weather impacts.

In terms of large-scale impacts, I’m expecting delays on Friday in the Ohio Valley, Mid Atlantic, and Northeast from the winter storm. You can see the affected areas on the Friday morning weather image above.

Be sure to keep an eye on your flight status if you are flying out of these areas or returning from Orlando. Other than Friday, things will be quiet around most of the country this weekend.

A Look Ahead

An early look at next week shows low pressure moving away from Florida on Tuesday. Things look quiet and comfortable with highs around 80 Tuesday and Wednesday which is great theme park weather.
