Mandalorian Star Fired for Social Media Controversy

A star of the Disney Plus hit show The Mandalorian was fired on Wednesday for a since-deleted offensive comment on social media.

The controversy began over Instagram when Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune (a former Rebel trooper who had become a Marshall for the New Republic) made a post that compared being a Republican in today’s environment to being a Jew in Nazi Germany.

Apparently this was not the first social media comment made by the actress that created controversy. Last year she also received negative attention for posts mocking mask wearing and circulating election fraud misinformation.

Wednesday’s post seems to have been the final straw for Lucasfilm. After the hashtag #FireGinaCarano began circulating on Twitter tagging Lucasfilm and the Disney parent company, Lucasfilm came out with the following statement:

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano was also let go from United Talent Agency because of the controversy.

Social media has erupted today both in support of and against Lucasfilm’s decision.

Season 3 of the Mandalorian is currently in pre-production and is rumored to air sometime in 2022, but it was never confirmed that Carano or her character Cara Dune were meant to appear in Season 3. However in light of recent events it now seems certain the character will not appear in any of Season 3.

She was, however, rumored to be part of a spin-off series called Rangers of the New Republic which is another Jon Favreau creation coming to Disney plus.

Funny it was fine with the hypocrites in the Disney empire when Pedro made similar comments but on the other end of the political spectrum and that was fine. Kathleen Kennedy is the worst thing that has happened to the Star Wars franchise and this is just further evidence! Gina did NOTHING wrong other than PWS (Posting While Conservative)! Eff you Disney!

I think this is reprehensible. I love Disney, but the fact they still do much business in China, a communist country, where millions that disagree with the state are being held in prison camps disturbs me. Or Jack Morrissey, a well known producer of theirs tweeting about sending "MAGA kids to the wood chipper, head first" still being employed by them. Or Pedro Pascal, the Mandalorian, comparing Trump supporters to Nazis. If Disney is going to make a stand, why choose this? Why not make the stand across the board for every employee then?

Correct, this is America, where you can speak your mind and not be INPRISIONED or BEHEADED because of your opinion. That's what was happening when the Framers of the Constitution wrote our beloved document. Freedom of Speech does not mean that there are never consequences for things that we say, write, or share. Actors/Actresses are Americans too, they may speak freely without the threat of prison or death. The owners of Disney/Lucasfilms are Americans too, they have the right to not support that speech. Watchers of shows and visitors of Disney are Americans too and they have the right to not financially support a business whose actions they may or may not agree with. That's what America is about, true freedom. Gina shared her opinion and Lucasfilm fired her. BOTH sides were within their rights.

What happened to free speech?? Everything is so one sides and it’s pathetic. She didn’t deserve to get fired over it but if that’s where Disney stands, maybe they don’t need my money anymore.

i would be fine with it if both sides were treated equally. for years now the left have been able to say things they feel are appropriate, including calling our president names. i am an american, no matter who is the president, i show respect by not calling him (or her possibly) names. all hollywood actors need to be silent about their political views or all need to be able to share them. it seems to be a one way street. she is an amazing actress and hopefully will make a comeback!!
