D23 Expo Announcement

It was during the 2019 D23 Expo in Anaheim that the Disney “Genie” planning app was first introduced.

The timeline of releasing the new app was to unveil in late 2020. However, due to the pandemic and the closure of the parks, that did not occur.

I was present at the panel when the announcement was made at the Expo.

The announcement was greeted with a lot of “oohs and ahhs” from excited Disney fans.

Although the My Disney Experience tool is already available for guests to utilize, the Disney Genie app feature will enhance the planning experience in a simpler way for all guests.

According to Bob Chapek, who at the time of the D23 Expo held the job title of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman, announced that:

The Disney Genie is being designed to help you make the most out of your visit, whether you’re a first-time guest or a seasoned pro.

Chapek took over as Disney’s CEO February 25, 2020.

What is the Disney “Genie” Planning App?

The Disney Genie will make planning easier by including fun and customized itineraries that are geared towards the guest’s interests.

According to Disney Parks Blog,

“from a royal, princess-themed day at Magic Kingdom Park to a trip around the world at Epcot for foodies and even a perfect day for thrill seekers.”

Certain features of Disney Genie will also be available through guest’s preferred travel professional.

The app was also created keeping in mind guests who are visiting the parks for the first time.

Those guests who may not know how to have full experience of the park with its attractions and entertainment.

Chances are that these first time guests have yet to hear about purchasing a Kenny the Pirate Character Locator subscription.

Okay, back to the Disney Genie.

The Disney Genie will be helpful in the way that it will quickly evaluate millions of options to present a day with an optimal, yet also flexible options according to the guest’s situation.

According to the presentation, Disney Genie will be able to send you:

real-time tips and updates, including recommendations for experiences it thinks you’ll love, helping you navigate the theme parks with added convenience and comfort.

Lastly, the Disney Genie will also take care of skipping the multiple steps of making reservations.

A First Look At the Disney Genie App

Tilak Mandadi, who serves as Disney’s Executive Vice President of Digital and Chief Technology Officer of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, provided a first look at the Disney Genie’s firsthand.

According to the presentation, the Disney Genie will produce personalized recommendations.

It will be based on which park the guest is visiting or experiences that are located nearby.

The app will also include estimated wait time at attractions, as well as the suggested arrival from the guest’s current location.

Additionally, a singular guest can make the choices for an entire party, so that each member does not have to access the Disney Genie individually.

Currently Disney has not released a date for the new feature which will make its debut alongside My Disney Experience.

Will you be utilizing the Disney Genie app when it first debuts? Have you purchased your subscription to Kenny the Pirate’s Character Locator? Let us know in the comments on Facebook and in our Facebook group.

I am personally dreading the Disney Genie. It will definitely take away from the way people value travel agents.
