RUMOR: TRON Lightcycle Power Run May Replace Magic Kingdom Attraction

Will Walt Disney World replace a Magic Kingdom attraction for the TRON Lightcycle Power Run roller coaster now found only in Shanghai Disneyland?

Many have been speculating that Walt Disney World would receive a TRON ride of its own. This speculation comes from talk of budgeting teams and executives from Orlando visiting Shanghai Disneyland.

Word around Disney is that Tomorrowland Speedway will be replaced by TRON Lightcycle Power Run in the Magic Kingdom. This change may be taking place in time to celebrate the Magic Kingdom’s 50th birthday.

The speculation is that Speedway may close in 2018 to make way for the new TRON roller coaster that could be opening around 2021.

Would you be excited to see the TRON Lightcycle Power Run in Walt Disney World?

  1. Jarrett, this ride is going behind Space Mountain and getting its own building, without replacing another ride. It’s going on the path right next to the Space Mountain gift shop

  2. Space Mountain is on the other side of the train tracks as is Pirates. There is a big chunk of land next to Space Mountain for a ride as long as the entrance is inside the trains loop. Hoping for this confit with an upgrade to Speedway. Wouldn’t it be great to have Tesla sponsor Speedway? Autonomous electric cars!

  3. This is awesome Idea! I think that Tron lightcycle power run rollercoaster is perfect for the Tomorrowland in Tomorrowland @ WDW! Awesome News!

  4. Hi Kenny! I think this attraction is long overdue to be seriously overhauled or replaced. Almost anything would be better. Thanks for the good work! Do you ever do fan meet and greets at Disney? It would be great!

  5. I am a massive TRON fan and have been hoping this amazing ride would come to Walt Disney World, but not at the expense of the Tomorrowland Speedway. That is one of the last classic pieces of Walt’s WDW still remaining and I have so many fond memories of this loud, clunky, slow ride as a child and as experiencing with my children that I really hate the idea of sacrificing it for any other attraction.

Here’s a thought – ditch the “This doesn’t quite fit…” Aerosmith Rock’n Roller Coaster and put TRON in right there. Way better fit and way more “on theme”.

Please don’t kill a classic piece of Tomorrowland for something from the land of tomorrow, Disney.

  6. This looks so Cool. I just watched a video from Shanghai. From what I can see it doesn’t go upside down? I hope it doesn’t go upside down, my son doesn’t like upside down coasters. Thank You Kenny :)

  7. I like it – but I hope the nice walk behind the area on the path to the back of the MK stays. It is so nice and quiet at night. Once you pass the smokers that is!

  8. I really hope this happens. I’m so tired of the stinky noisy Speedway. Especially since there are so many great go-cart places so close to Disney.

  9. Aww, my daughter loves this ride. She’s only 7, but she’s been obsessed with it each time we’ve gone. Maybe she’ll grow out of it, but it made her feel like a big girl.

  10. Yes please! We are HUGE Tron fans in our house. I’m sure the biggest critique of this is swapping out a mild kid friendly ride with another adult coaster, though. But I’m all for it!
