New Pirates of the Caribbean Permits Hint at Upcoming Changes

Could these permits signal an exciting change coming to Magic Kingdom's Pirates of the Caribbean? Find out what we know so far.

Pirates of the Caribbean debuted at Florida's Magic Kingdom Park in 1973 and was one of the park's first significant additions after its 1971 opening.

This attraction was not intended as an opening day attraction at Walt Disney World. Imagineers initially thought that this attraction would not be as well received in Florida, since it is on the northern border of the Caribbean.

As we learned in the fun Disney+ series "Behind the Attraction", when Walt Disney World opened in 1971, guests complained that they wanted to ride Pirates of the Caribbean. Due to popular demand, Pirates of the Caribbean replaced the original plan for this space, which was the Western River Expedition.

Walt Disney World just filed two new permits for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. One permit is registered for the show building, and one permit affects the queue for this attraction.

Both permits are to "provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction." Disney lists Buena Vista Construction Company. As is pretty standard with Disney Park permits, the expiration date is set for a year from the date the permit was filed.

At this time, Disney has not announced a closing date. It is possible work could also be completed overnight if only minor changes will be made.

These permits do leave us wondering what type of change could be coming to this attraction. One of the most recent changes at Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean was the debut of a next-generation Audio Animatronic.

This is a pirate skeleton that is seated atop a pile of golden riches. Guests can see him transform from human form to skeletal remains. Check out his full transformation HERE.

Two new permits have been filed for Magic Kingdom's Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

While these permits may not point to a big transformation, such as the addition of a new animatronic, it would be an exciting change.
