Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Changes
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed on January 6, 2025, for a HUGE refurbishment. Work includes moving the tower and replacing some or all of the tracks.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad officially reopened to Guests on May 3, 2026. Since that time, there have been a few hiccups aboard the "Wildest Ride in the Wilderness".
Big Thunder Mountain Warning
Yesterday, August 25, 2026, Guests visiting Magic Kingdom noticed that mid-afternoon, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was listed as temporarily unavailable.
As evening approached and Guests prepared for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, Magic Kingdom issued this pop-up notification on the My Disney Experience app:
"On behalf of the entire team at Magic Kingdom, I'd like to apologize that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently unavailable. Our Cast Members are working diligently to get this attraction up and running again.
We are sorry you are not able to experience this attraction at this time. I hope you will enjoy some of our other attractions during your experience in the park today."
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Closed
Today, August 26, 2026, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has failed to open and continues to present as "temporarily unavailable".
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed on August 25, 2026, and has not reopened since.
If Haunted Mansion is a "must-do" for your family, continue checking the My Disney Experience app throughout the day to see if it may have reopened. Guests who secured a Lightning Lane for this attraction will receive a Lightning Lane Multi-Pass to use on a select attraction.
