Disney's Space Mountain Receives New Theme and Name Change

Space Mountain is a really fun coaster that can be found in several Disney parks around the world. However, a huge retheme and name change have Disney fans surprised.

There are rumors that big changes may be coming to Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom.

Let's just pretend that the rumor is true. What could be the scope of this refurbishment? Could this be for a whole track replacement, such as the one Disney recently completed at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?

Or could this be a retheme similar to what we saw at Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets? Maybe this could be a combination of a new track along with a new theme in the attraction and in the queue for this attraction.

While we still speculate what may be on the horizon for Walt Disney World's Space Mountain, Disney just announced a HUGE change for Space Mountain at Tokyo Disneyland.

Tokyo Disneyland's Space Mountain closed November 2024, for a massive refurbishment. Now expected to open in 2027, we have a new name for this attraction Space Mountain Earthrise.

The reason for the name change is that "Earthrise" refers to the sight of Earth from space as it rises from beyond the Moon's surface, just as the Sun rises from the horizon. The name captures the beauty and preciousness of Earth as an unparalleled existence within the universe.

Space Mountain Earthrise will take Guests on an unforgettable journey through outer space with all new architecture and a newly developed ride system that combines imaginative storytelling and immersive theatrical elements.

Space Mountain Earthrise opens in 2027.

Once it opens in 2027, Space Mountain Earthrise will feature an onboard audio system which be the first of its kind at Tokyo Disneyland.

This newly imagined concept of Tokyo Disneyland's Space Mountain does lead us to wonder if big plans may be on the horizon for Walt Disney World's Space Mountain.
