Warning Now Issued for Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom
Guests love to conquer each of the Walt Disney World mountains, but that complicated at Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain.
Magic Kingdom Closures
Magic Kingdom just completed two lengthy refurbishments for two popular attractions. The first was for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.
Just as quickly as those construction walls fell, new construction walls surrounded Carousel of Progress.
Carousel of Progress will see new decades along with the addition of a Walt Disney animatronic. To prepare for the next version of this ever-progressing attraction, the Carousel of Progress is now unavailable. We expect the attraction to reopen in 2027.
Space Mountain Possible Refurbishment
Now, there are rumors that big changes may be coming to Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom.
Let's just pretend that the rumor is true. What could be the scope of this refurbishment? Could this be for a whole track replacement, such as the one Disney recently completed at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?
Or could this be a retheme similar to what we saw at Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets? Maybe this could be a combination of a new track along with a new theme in the attraction and in the queue for this attraction.
While Disney could make an official announcement at any time, Disney typically reserves big announcements for the D23: The Ultimate Fan Event. This is scheduled for August 14-16, 2026.
Space Mountain High Wait Times
This week has been a rough one for Space Mountain. Yesterday, the wait times for Space Mountain reached 160 minutes. Yikes!
Space Mountain has only operated with one loading side this week.
According to Guests, only one side of the attraction is being used which cuts down the operating times by half. Currently, August 7, 2026, Space Mountain is temporarily closed to Guests. This looks like another rough day for this thrilling attraction.
