Six Big Changes Coming to Magic Kingdom

Our magical Magic Kingdom will look quite different. Although fans are divided on this, Magic Kingdom is set to undergo six significant changes soon.

The promise of a Magic Kingdom expansion has been building over the years. Disney announced a potential expansion of Magic Kingdom during the 2022 D23 weekend.

Although first labeled as a “Blue Sky” project, during the big D23 fan event last September, Disney officially announced plans for Villains Land, and Disney also announced plans to remove Tom Sawyer Island from the Magic Kingdom and bring in a new Cars-themed land.

After several months of little to no news, this past week Disney shared a closing date for the Rivers of America and shared how this would affect the Walt Disney World Railroad operations until Villains Land is complete.

This project is gaining momentum. Recently, we shared photos that several trees are now being cleared to make way for this expansion.

As with any project, permits must be filed. Now, six new permits have been filed, all with the same address located behind Magic Kingdom (1700 Floridian Way). These permits include: 1. Install Fire Alarm systems 2. Install trailers 3. Install Infrastructure 4. General Electrical Work 5. Install Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning 6. Install (what appears to be) a Fire Suppression system.

Disney has remained quiet about this work, but we are ready for it! These are the beginning steps for the big work to begin on this Magic Kingdom expansion.

When this was first announced, Josh D’Amaro shared that there will be 2 attractions, dining, shopping, and more. Be sure to check out the full villainous lineup HERE. osh D’amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shares, “The addition will be on ‘an incredibly twisted grand scale’ unlike anything that Disney has done in the past at its parks.”

Cars Land will take guests beyond Radiator Springs. There will be brand-new territory to explore with two great attractions! This will replace the current Rivers of America attractions.
