Sometimes change isn’t always a good thing, but this new change for runDisney will be beneficial. See the latest updates here.
runDisney
runDisney hosts events in Disney World, Disneyland, and even virtual events you can complete anywhere. runDisney is a race experience like no other. You will experience course entertainment, including characters, DJs, bands, and so much more. Your runDisney race experience won’t be one that you will soon forget.
Be sure to check out our complete guides to in-person runDisney in part 1 (registration and planning) and part 2 (expo and race day).
Recently, runDisney announced that the Walt Disney World Marathon would have an earlier start time. They also shared the course map, which isn’t usually shared until about a month or so prior. Check out all of those details HERE.
Expected Start Times for Wine and Dine Weekend
If you are an experienced runDisney runner, you know that the later start groups do not start when the official race starts. The race is done in waves, so multiple starts occur The last wave of the last group usually steps off about an hour from when the race officially starts.
The Wine and Dine Half Marathon is celebrating its 15th year running and takes place October 31 – November 3.
With the release of the Digital Event Guide for The Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, runDisney shared projected start times for each start group. In previous races, athletes were always given a time of when their corral would close, but not an estimated start time.
A start time window is provided, as there are usually multiple waves in each start group. Check out the image above for the projected start times for each group!
What Does This Mean for You?
With runDisney sharing projected start times, athletes can better prepare for when they will be on the course. This will help with any spectators you have cheering you on as well! Athletes will also be able to wait to move into their assigned corrals/start groups until closer to their start time.
runDisney has provided athletes with projected start times for each start group.
Some people prefer to move into their assigned corral as soon as it opens. However, it can be difficult to stretch or warm up along with the fact you would need to leave the corral to use the bathroom.
If Athletes want to try and arrive later, they will still need to be aware of any road closures and when they will occur as that could impact their ability to arrive at EPCOT for the start of the race. Click HERE for the Digital Event Guide as it includes all the need-to-know information for your race weekend.
Disney does give a disclaimer that the “projected start times are approximate and may vary, are subject to change and may be affected by inclement weather or race operations delays. Please listen to race announcement for any start time changes.”
My (Heather’s) recommendation is still to arrive early because the pre-race festivities are part of the fun! I will be running the Wine and Dine Half Marathon, see you on the course!
