What do you get when you mix family fun, Disney+ and NFL Football? This past weekend, viewers got Toy Story Funday Football!
Live Streaming Events
Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+, has had a couple of live streaming events in the past. There was a live streaming event for EPCOT’s nighttime show, Harmonious that was held last year. The event featured a live choir and orchestra as they sang and played to Harmonious.
Earlier in March, ESPN’s NHL Big City Greens Classic aired on ESPN+, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney+. It was the NHL’s first live, animated telecast. Similar technology was used for NFL Football this past weekend.
Toy Story Funday Football
For the first time ever, ESPN brought us an alternate version of a football game from Andy’s Room! Pixar pushed the boundaries of modern technology to create a fully animated alternative version of the game for Funday Football!
During Sunday’s game with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atlanta Falcons broadcasting from London, fans were able to watch the game played in the world of Toy Story in real-time.
Tracking chips were placed on the players and also in the football to replicate movements from the players and ball for the game. Announcers, Drew Carter and Booger McFarland wore mocap suits to replicate their movements as well.

What did viewers and fans think of the live event? According to EPSN, the live streaming event delivered the largest audience for a live streaming event to date on Disney+ (based on peak concurrency). If you missed it on Sunday, you can watch the replay on Disney+.

Viewers, fans, and families all over seemed to love watching this football game from Andy’s room! I (Maggie) watched it with my family and we all enjoyed it. The event was fun for children to see all of their favorite Toy Story characters cheer on the players and viewers who were not familiar with football were able to learn some trivia and rules of the football game.
NFL players even got in on the fun by sharing their favorite Toy Story characters and some facts about themselves.
