Disney World's monorail system opened October 1, 1971 with the rest of Walt Disney World and quickly became a favorite of many! The monorail cruises above the Seven Seas Lagoon, offering Guests a spectacular view from this "Highway in the Sky."

Offering access to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, the Transportation and Ticket Center, and several resorts, the monorail is a quick and efficient way to get around Walt Disney World (and far superior to most other transportation options).

Woman sues Disney

A woman visiting Epcot on March 24, 2023 recently sued Disney over an incident that occurred that day. While she was aboard the Monorail that day, the doors malfunctioned and slammed shut onto her body.

According to court records, the woman was in excruciating pain while being stuck between the doors for several minutes. 5 male guests were eventually able to get her loose, the records read.

However, the lawsuit alleges that Disney's Cast Members did not step in to help during the incident. Instead, they stated over the intercom that the Monorail was malfunctioning and would need to shut down temporarily. This would allow Disney to restart the entire system.

Court records show the woman suffered permanent injury from the malfunction. At this time, we do not know what the extent of the damage is.

In response to this incident, the woman accuses Disney of failing to both maintain safe operating conditions aboard the Monorail and properly correct the issue once it happened. The lawsuit seeks compensation for damages over $50,000.

Do you think this woman will win her court case? Have you ever witnessed an incident like this on the Monorail or other Disney transportation? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. She should not have been standing in the doorway. If it was indeed a malfunction, then Disney is responsible. Disney cast members are not able to see in every car via intercom, so therefore it is unreasonable to complain that they didn't help. It should be settled. And she should be compensated somehow

  2. Poor woman doubtful she's probably one of those last people that had to throw herself on when the doors were closing and she got caught. Disney will pay her out to keep it out of court even though she was probably wrong

  3. 50,000.00 is pocket change they will write her a check if it was permanent damage it would be a lot more than that . Come on man

  4. I would like to know what kind of “permanent damage” this was…. It sounds kind of sus to me.
Either way, I guess Disney will settle rather than risk the possible bad publicity.

  5. I have been going to disney since 1972 and have seen the doors of the monorail malvunction but never grabbed anyone. Disney will settle this out of court, it would cost more then $50,000.00 to fight it. I will leave it at that.
