We are so delighted that we have the happiest sort of news to share with you today! One of the things that brightens everyone’s day is the announcement of the arrival of new baby animals in Disney World!

Not only do these little ones delight fans of the animal kingdom, but they are great news for the world! Disney’s conservation efforts have brought numerous baby animals into the world from an array of endangered and threatened species. These births are part of an initiative called the Species Survival Plan.

A Safari Surprise

Earlier this week, Guests enjoying Kilimanjaro Safaris in Disney’s Animal Kingdom were in for quite a surprise. The guides explained to Guests that they would be unable to stop for animal viewing and they would have to keep the vehicles moving. They could slow down a bit for photos but no complete stops would be happening.

Then, when it was time to round the corner for the savanna, it stood nearly empty where giraffes and other animals typically roam. Guides explained that it was because there was something new in the savanna! One of Animal Kingdom’s Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras had a brand new baby, and they were making their public debut.

The baby zebra and its mother (and one other zebra) were temporarily the only animals visible in this section. The new mother and baby were trying out the savanna and enjoying some much-needed time and space to acclimate themselves to their home.

The trucks were unable to come to a stop to keep everything moving along. The little one did not seem fearful and followed its mother as the vehicle ambled over the savanna.

Cast members confirmed that the baby had been born about two weeks prior to this appearance and that mom and baby were doing well. The little one does not have a name just yet, but that will come soon.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for this adorable pair next time you are visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You may be about to spot them on Kilimanjaro Safaris.
