Great Attraction Overlays
Thrill seekers both young and the young at heart can’t get enough of their favorite Disney attractions. At certain times throughout the year, our favorite Disney attractions receive a special overlay for special seasons and holidays.
During the International Festival of the Holidays for 2022, EPCOT’s newest coaster Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind received a special overlay. Also at Walt Disney World certain attractions in Magic Kingdom receive attraction overlays during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
At Disneyland, Space Mountain gets transformed into Hyperspace Mountain in honor of May the 4th. These are great ways to experience a different twist on your favorite attraction.
New Dates and Overlays
The fun starts at Disneyland this fall for Halloween. Each night starting on September 1st through Oct. 31, Disneyland and California Adventure will offer amazing overlays. These overlays can be enjoyed every night without the need for an additional park ticket.
“Halloween Screams” will cast spellbinding projections and special effects on Main Street, U.S.A., Sleeping Beauty Castle, Rivers of America, and in front of “it’s a small world.” Fireworks will be offered with this nighttime spectacular on select nights.
As many Disney fans know, Disneyland Park in California offers a fun holiday overlay of the Haunted Mansion. Jack Skellington and his crew, from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas transform the Haunted Mansion. The overlay is complete with a real-life gingerbread house located in the Grand Hall.
This overlay typically extends into the Christmas celebrations as well. This year, Disney shares that this overlay will end on October 31st.
Over at Disney California Adventure Park, three attractions will undergo seasonal transformations with Halloween spins – and drops. The family-friendly Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Cars Land and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters opt for happily hair-raising soundtracks to become Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.
For the first time, resident “car-acter” Guido will sport a ghoulish “car-stume” as he welcomes guests to the Casa Della Tires.
Each night starting on September 1st through Oct. 31, Disneyland and California Adventure will offer amazing overlays.
As the afternoon winds down each day, the thrills go up at Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! in Avengers Campus. The attraction transforms into Guardians of the Galaxy-Monsters After Dark. This is a scream-worthy adventure to save Groot from creatures running amok in The Collector’s Fortress.
There are also other great ways to celebrate this fall at Disneyland with the Oogie Boogie Bash and Plaza de la Familia.
