Would you be more willing to subscribe to Disney+ if it was cheaper? How about if I told you there was a catch to the lower price?
Disney+
Ever since its debut in November 2019, Disney+ continually brings fresh content along with old favorites. Disney+ got us through the early weeks of the pandemic when everything was shut down. It kept The Walt Disney Company above water when its theme parks around the world closed.
From Star Wars and Marvel spin offs to documentaries and classic movies, Disney+ has something for everyone. I personally love watching any documentaries involving the theme parks. We have also had Encanto playing on repeat!
Despite the enthusiasm for Disney+, the number of new subscriptions is not as high as The Walt Disney Company would like. While it continues to increase subscriptions every quarter, Disney is reportedly brainstorming ways to hit their goals.
A Cheaper Version
According to The Information, Disney is supposedly toying around with the idea of launching a cheaper tier of the Disney+ subscription service. Well, I certainly agree that this would boost both subscriptions and popularity!
Right now, Disney+ costs $7.99/month which is a $1 increase from when it debuted in 2019. For an additional fee, you can bundle Disney+ with Hulu and ESPN+. While the report does not give an exact price point for this cheaper version, it could potentially knock a few bucks off your monthly fee.
What’s the catch?
Are you infuriated new subscribers could pay less than you do for the same service? Does this sound too good to be true? That’s because there is a catch.
According to the report, this cheaper version of Disney+ would have ads. GASP.
Right now, Disney+ does not have ads which I am eternally grateful for. However, it seems like many subscriber-based streaming services are moving away from their no-ad policy in favor of “commercials” like we used to have in “the good ol days.”
Disney has not shared any definitive plans for a cheaper ad-based subscription, but we will keep you updated should Disney finalize plans.
Would you watch more ads in order to pay less for Disney+? Or, are you like me who will pay extra to keep your shows ad-free? Let us know in the comments below and on Facebook.
