Have you ever seen an elephant FLY?! Soar high in the sky on this cute spinner rider at Magic Kingdom. This whimsical ride is located in Fantasyland and is the original spinner attraction. We may have Magic Carpets in Adventureland and TriceraTop Spin in Animal Kingdom, but Dumbo is the original.

Dumbo opened in Disneyland in August 1955 and debuted at Magic Kingdom on opening day 1971!

2012’s Fantasyland expansion brought this attraction’s most significant changes. Dumbo is now located in the Storybook Circus of Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland. The attraction features two 16 ride vehicle mechanisms that counter-rotate from each other for a total of 32 ride vehicles.

In 2012, the attraction gained water features, including fountain lights that change colors at night. The play area also debuted with that expansion – giving kids a nice break from the park while waiting to ride Dumbo!

As noted above, Dumbo The Flying Elephant has water features. The fountain sprays water down into the pool beneath the ride vehicles. It gives a nice extra effect although you cannot see it much once you are up in the air.

Kenny the Pirate is at Magic Kingdom and he noticed that the water is currently drained from Dumbo! You can see the light fixtures that display the bright colors at night and the wires connecting everything underneath.

The water is currently drained and there are no fountain features running.

It may be routine maintenance, or something icky may have gotten into the water and they have yet to refill the water. Or, it could be a sign of some more serious work that needs completed before the 50th anniversary. Perhaps they have more painting to do or want to do some other touch ups.

If you are heading to ride Dumbo soon be aware that this may affect your experience a bit!
