Many of us are sitting around our homes just looking for some good news. Well, investors saw some good news today with reports of positive news on the Covid-19 Vaccine front.

Moderna released information today that they have seen initial success with their development of a new Covid-19 vaccine. When human tested in a limited number of individuals, all of them developed antibodies that appeared to be in the range of those who had contracted the Coronovirus and recovered from it.

Antibodies are seen as the answer to preventing the spread of the disease. Preventing the spread of the virus means that more people would travel, when provided the virus. More travel means more movie goers and more people will eventually visit Disney’s many theme parks. So, investors jumped on the under priced stock and sent it soaring.

The data from the Moderna test was limited to a small, initial test, but it is very promising that a potential vaccine could be on the horizon. It may take several months for any vaccine candidate to be tested and vetted before full production would be provided, but at this point, a little good news could lift our spirits a bit.

The company used research that had been used to develop a potential SARS vaccine from the 2002 outbreak, but shelved the work when the virus was not as infectious as initially thought.

“These interim Phase 1 data, while early, demonstrate that vaccination with mRNA-1273 elicits an immune response of the magnitude caused by natural infection starting with a dose as low as 25mg,” said Tal Zaks, Moderna’s chief medical officer.

The next phase of the test will involve increasing the amount of the dosage in the human trials to see what response the human body creates. Researchers feel that the 25mg dosage given in Phase 1 may be a bit low for most humans to build the proper antibodies.

Phase 2 trials have already been permitted by the Food and Drug Administration and Phase 3 trials are set to begin in July. Moderna has stated that they will begin preparing to manufacture their vaccine in mass quantities.

It is thought, that when available, the vaccine would be provided to those at highest risk first, then offered to those with fewer life-affecting issues like high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity.

Disney stock is currently up over 7.5% on this news.

Maybe this can help brighten our day a bit. It may be several months from reality, but scientists are hard at work around the world to try to overcome this deadly virus. In the meantime, stay healthy!
