Disney World Crowd Calendar April 2018

The Disney World Crowd Calendar April 2019 begins as an extremely busy month and dies down to moderate levels toward the end of the month.  You’ll find that the Magic Kingdom offers Extra Magic Hours almost every day during the week of Easter (added later).  If you’re an onsite guest at a Disney World Resort, you should take advantage of that Extra Magic Hour morning during Easter week!  That first hour is a great time to visit a good number of Fantasyland attractions.  I would then plan my Fastpass+ in a different park and hop to the lower crowds in a BEST park.

Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival runs from March to May and it includes a free concert series known as Garden Rocks concerts. Artists that perform are from the 60’s to the 80’s and offer genuine flashback music.  Check out the topiaries, take in a gardening seminar, walk through the butterfly garden and grab a bite to eat at the festival booths.

What will the weather be like during your April trip?

April is beautiful in Walt Disney World.  The weather is warm, but not hot and there’s beautiful flowers everywhere.  Epcot decorates really well for the Flower and Garden Festival and offers great topiaries and gardening seminars.  It is central Florida, so bring that poncho in case you get an afternoon shower.  Weather forecasts are under each date on the Crowd Calendar for April as well!

  • Average high temperature:  83°F
  • Average low temperature:  59°F
  • Mean temperature:  71°F
  • Record high temperature:  97°F (1968)
  • Record low temperature:  37°F (2001)
  • Average Precipitation:  2.28 in.

Will the park hours for Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom be extended?

Disney usually releases preliminary hours, then adds hours the closer you get to your trip.  With Animal Kingdom now offering “After dark” experiences, you can expect that park to stay open much later.

Should I use Extra Magic Hours privilege?

Avoid the trap of visiting a park on its longest hours day.  More people will be there and the wait times can be 30% to 100% higher than other days.

If you are planning to use Extra Magic Hours, use the morning ones, they are a great benefit, if you leave after lunch or parade time.  Avoid the parks that offer evening Extra Magic Hours because they have large crowds at night and many rides have long lines (Hollywood Studios and Epcot).  The exception would be the Magic Kingdom late at night because most guests won’t stay up from 1am to 3am in the morning.  If you choose a Late Extra Magic Hour park, you should plan to sleep in the next day.

Historic Disney World Park Hours

  1. Can you say way AK is rated the worst park on Tuesday? 4/17 when there are no EMH, but the best park on 4/18 when hours are extended? Trying to decide which day & thought it would be the opposite

  2. I’m going April 17th Tuesday and April 19th Thursday to MK. It says on your calendar that it will be moderate crowds, but Mk as green ( best park) which is it?

Is it overall for the date ?
Now I’m getting anxiety over the dates.

  3. With Easter landing on Monday, April 21st for 2019, do you anticipate there to be large crowds that third week in April?

  4. Hi! My trip is planned for the last two weeks of April, 2018. I just discovered that the EMH for 4/24 have been removed. I haven’t had this happen before. Any specific reason that you know of?

  5. Hi Kenny~ We’ll be staying at Wilderness Lodge during the Star Wars Half Marathon weekend in April. What does that event entail? Where does it all take place? Hoping to plan our park days avoiding it & the associated crowds. Thanks so much for your very helpful advice! :)

  6. Hi Kenny!

I will be traveling to DW with my 5 year old in April for our first mommy and me trip. We will be there April 15-24. If they offer the Early Morning Magic during our time there, do you know when they may release those dates?

Thanks so much for all you do!

    Staci

  7. I am trying to do the math here and see if I an understanding their rules correctly. With the 190 day rule if you have a resort, if I want to book a dining for Sunday April 29th 2018, I believe with a 10 day resort stay I can do it as early as October 21st if my resort stay is 10 days long and starts on April 19th. Is that correct?

    1. You can book 180 days from your check in date + length of stay (up to 10 days). You still cannot begin until your check-in date. 6am online 7am phone call Eastern

  8. My family is planning a trip on April 19th through the 27th in 2018 so we are hoping that most of the Easter crowds are done and it should be really nice. I am just trying to figure out which days to go to certain parks and which days to take time off since we are going for 9 days and buying a 6 day ticket. We are also staying off property and will not have access to Extra Magic Hours. When will you have a 2018 April crowd prediction?

  9. This information is fantastic! Thank you! Curious why on Thursday 4/13, MK is the best park to go to as far as quietest DW parks. We are thinking of taking our 4-year-old’s for that day only for a “taste of Disney”. We would be using the EMH. Thanks!

  10. We will be at Magic Kingdom April 15 and want to take advantage of the 7:00 EMH. What time would you suggest we arrive at the park? We will be staying at the Contemporary. Thanks!

  11. I am going with my family (4 kids) from April 2-8. Is it spring break during that time? Is there anything special to make the crowds really bad besides Flower and Garden Festival?

  12. Hello! My husband and I are thinking about coming for a quick trip the last half of the last week of April and head home on May 1. I’ve checked your crowd calendar and its not terrible with a little planning and hitting the right park but it looks like lots of resorts are unavailable. Is anything besides the Flower and Garden Festival going on that crowds would be crazy? Thanks!!

  13. Do you have any tips for visiting Easter 2017 and where to go for special meet & greets April 16, 2017? We are currently planning to go to Animal Kingdom that day to avoid the crowds at Magic Kingdom. We are staying at Allstar Sports April 14-22.

    1. Resorts offer special meets on Easter Sunday. It will be on the Resort Recreation Calendars early April.

  14. I am going to Disney during the last week in April. It seems to be a less busy time of the year. Will I have trouble getting FP+ if I wait to book them until last minute? We aren’t very good at planning ahead but don’t have any little kids with us so we don’t need FP for those types of attractions.

    1. You’ll always have trouble getting good Fastpass at the last minute. Order your tickets in advance and link them to your account.

  15. Thanks. Hoping it’s not as crazy as the last time we were there – Dec 26 through January 5th – a couple years ago, but not much I can do with my wife being a teacher.

  16. Wife and I are heading there for a week starting on the 14th. You have each park listed green, yellow, or red but have the days listed as red at the top. Given that it’s Easter, I’m assuming this overrides the parks and that every park will just be insane as it’s Easter week? Or do the individual parks per day still hold true, at least to a degree?

    Thanks for any help.

    1. You’ll see outrageous wait times every day, but the waits will be a little lower with the green parks. Arrive early and stay late.

  17. Hi Kenny,
Just wondering how you think the crowds will be at the parks when the Invictus Games will be going on. May 8-12 I believe are the dates. Did you figure the games in the crowd Calendar?

  18. Just looking at this week, I think Disney changed EMH- Friday used to be MK, but now EMH at Epcot I believe 4/15. Possibly changes in EMH to other days this weekend too.

  19. Do you know why last week of April has low crowds and HS stays open later compared to last week of October….where there are low crowds, but HS closes earlier?

  20. Do you think you will be changing any AK days on the crowd calendar now that ROL opening date has been announced? I was planning on going the 19th…I would like to see the show but dont want to go on a red day..you have opening day the 22nd as green…Im guessing that will change ?

  21. Looking to go to MK in April either the 17th or the 19th. By looking at your calendar I would think Sunday the 17th would be the best day but I thought a Tuesday would be better. Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks Kenny!!!

      1. Tuesday is never recommended as it is close to Monday in attendance. Crowd Calendar shows which park is best each day.

  22. I have done a lot of research and really trust your opinion/predictions.

We are staying off property; visiting the parks 4/7-4/12. 5 days in park, one rest day.

    My week is
    -HS-AK break MK-E-MK *OR*
    MK-EP break AK-HS-MK

I was only able to get BOG rez for the 10th (BFST) and the 12th (D). Still working on getting my preferred dates, but my 30 day FP window is approaching and I need to get my park order nailed down.

Does it spoil our visit to not start and end w MK? If we start at MK I will need to scrap the BOG bfst. I have not been for 20yrs. We are surprising the kids or I would ask them.

  23. Me again! Any idea when Rivers of Light is starting in April? It will be time to do my FP soon and trying to figure out if I want to go to AK in am and leave when we are done ( we are usually finished by 2 pm or so )or go later in the day that way we are there for the show. Will be in AK 4/19.Thanks

  24. Hi.we are planing to travel to Orlando third week on April. I found out that for Magical Kingdom is the best day 04/21/16. Do I read it right? /three kids/. Thank you Aneta

  25. We are going to be in the Magic Kingdom on April 10 & 11. Due to our schedule, we don’t have too much flexibility on this (unless it’s really going to be a big problem). While the crowds on April 10 look manageable, Monday April 11 is a “red” day (insane crowds).
My understanding is that this timeframe is post-Easter break and should be a little quieter.
So, does “red” in that case really mean that you expect the Magic Kingdom to be “insane” on Monday April 11th? Or, is it just relative to the other parks? In other words, Magic Kingdom might be the most crowded park that day, but given that the crowds should be moderate overall, it should still be manageable (it’s not going to be like a day in July).

    1. You’re reading it wrong. It states the crowd level as Moderate and Magic Kingdom as worst park. Mk is always worst choice on Monday

  26. You have been very helpful so far! 1 more question..would you recommend going to a park (MK in this instance ) when it is green but overall heavy crowds (Star Wars marathon-Sun 4/17) or on a day when it is yellow but crowds are moderate overall? (Sat 4/23).We will be going to Mk 2-3x if that makes a difference. Thanks!

  27. I will be in WDW April 15-25.We picked HS for Sat the 16th and MK for Sun the 17th before looking at your calendar.Glad to see I don’t have to change anything due to the half marathon. There are also 2 different cheerleading competitions going on while we are there ? How do you think they usually affect the crowds at the parks ?

      1. Thanks! It is already factored into your crowd calendar correct? When I was there a few years ago with my daughter’s cheer team HS closed early one night for a private party.Do you know when they would announce that ? I have a Mama Melrose w/Fantasmic package on a Sat night that week and wondering if I should just go ahead and change that nowif it’s a possibility they will close early that night ? TIA

      2. Thanks! I will check back for updated info! Do they still do the character palooza? I dont see it on any upcoming calendars.

  28. I realize this is last minute but we will be making our ADR this Wednesday and plan to book a Fantasmic Dinner package through Mama Melroses. If the package is only valid for the 1st show of the evening and the schedule is not out yet, how will I know what time to book our reservation?

  29. What’s the best week in April to go to DW? Or is May better…. 2 small kids. Is there ever free dining in spring?????

  30. So for the last week of April Thursday is the best day to visit MK and Sunday is the second best day even though it is a weekend? I thought Sundays were supposed to be a bad day to visit MK.

  31. Thank you so much for all the information that you post.

We have a trip planned from 4/26/16 – 05/04/16. We are planning to visit MK twice during our trip. According to your calendar it appears that 4/28/16 should be a good day to visit the MK; however, I’m not sure which other other day would be the best. I realize that your May calendar isn’t out yet, but if the first week of May looks the same as the last week of April then it seems like maybe 5/1/16 or 5/3/16 might be ok. It seems you have Sundays marked as yellow but MK is green, and Tuesdays marked green but MK is yellow. Could you recommend which dates you feel would be the best for us to visit the MK?

    Thanks Again!

    1. Green MK days are always best in terms of wait times. Early May will likely mirror this, but it will be a month before we know.

  32. Thank You! I got a reservation at 8:20am at BOG at MK on 20th. Since this is quick service I figured that would give us a head start at Fantasyland before the crowds (hopefully!). I have our fastpasses planned as well. Thanks again for the tip.

  33. Hi, I have planned my family trip with 2 toddlers (almost 3 & 5 yrs old) for April 19-22nd 2015 and staying at WL. My current plans are MK on 20th & 21st and HS on 22nd. Would you recommend keeping that plan for the 20th or switch and do HS on 20th and MK on 22nd? They are both red on the crowd calendar, however these are the only parks we are visiting in those 3 days. I want to keep MK 21st since we have CRT breakfast reservation. Appreciate any recommendations! Thank You.

    1. Always better to visit on a green day, but you can still do everything you’d like with these:
Arrive 45 minutes before park opening.
      Have a good plan
      Use Fastpass+ well

  34. Hi Kenny, new to Disney & this site and its been very helpful in planning my trip this April 19-22nd with my family (husband & 2 girls 2.5 & 5 yrs old)! We are staying at WL & doing 2 days in MK & 1 day at HS (Right now MK on 20th, 21st & HS on 22nd).
Do you have a suggested park to visit on that Monday 20th since both are red on crowd calendar OR should I leave schedule as is? Currently I have the fastpasses booked for MK,on 20th (and HS 22nd) but could change around if you think it would be better to switch those days (we want to keep schedule of MK on 21st due to CRT reservations for 8am!) :) Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  35. 1. Do shuttles arrive that early? 2. I’m planning on doing the other busy rides in the morning ( non fast pass recommended rides ) 3. Besides fast passes, dinner reservations, getting there early and mapping out when and where to go,what else is considered good planning? 4. Besides my three fast passes spread out throughout the middle of the day…what else can I do? Thanks for the help.

    1. Disney World onsite hotel buses begin one hour before earliest park opening. Look over my Touring Plans pages.

  36. Hey. I’m visiting April 5th until April 10th. Spending two days at Epcot, two days at MK, one at AK and one at HS. I have fast pass reservations for the busiest rides as well as dining reservations. I also chose the best parks for those days as recommended on your calendar. ( even tho the two MK days are EMH days idk why )….do you think ill survive and do most of the rides without wanting to murder someone?

    1. 1. Arrive 30-45 minutes before park open
      2. Do something great right away
      3. Have a good plan
      4. Use FP well.

  37. I made all the dining reservations before seeing this calendar. I then planned our trips to each park based on where we were eating that night (first timer’s mistake, I know.) I have us scheduled to eat at Akershus on Monday, April 27th (a red day for Epcot) and Hollywood & Vine Wednesday, April 29th (a yellow day for HS). All of our other plans fell perfectly on days with low crowds. I obviously can’t change our dining reservations, so would you recommend flip-flopping parks during the day and just leaving for dinner, or sticking it out with the parks as they are?

    1. If you arrive 30 minutes before park opening, use a good plan and FP+, you’ll be able to do anything you want in those parks on those days

      1. Thanks! I’ve been using your touring plans to plan our days so hopefully I have no issues! Still hoping for a HS touring plan including rides before our trip!

  38. We’re going to be spending 2 consecutive evenings at HS in April. Do the Character Paloozas generally change every day? We plan to go the first day, but I wasn’t sure if we’d see the same ones on the 2nd day or get a new batch. Thx!

    1. red green? If you choose a Red park, you are making the worst selection based on wait times. You’ll see some really long waits and the park will be much more crowded.

  39. Hello – I’ve called GF and WDW reservations regarding the beach activity pool closure that you’ve listed and they have nothing planned. Can you please tell me how confident you are that the pool will be closed at the GF from April 3-9th?

  40. I read up on the characterpalooza on your site. I’m a little confused about where it is held. We will be at HS on 4/26/15 and the time listed says it’s at 5:40pm. Will it be on the Streets of America? Thanks again for all the fabulous info!

  41. Thanks for your help! I’m still not seeing it listed on the first week of the April calendar (I’m sure it’s because I’m doing something wrong), but I trust that it’s happening and we’ll be on the look out. Thanks again!

  42. Hi Kenny. First off, THANK YOU! I’m planning a trip for my family and your insights are beyond magically helpful! We’re going during a pretty busy week… The week leading to Easter. We’ll finish our trip on Easter Sunday. I’m just learning about chatacterpalooza. Is it not going on that week? I checked your calendar, which was awesome, but I didn’t see it listed.

      1. We’re arriving Monday, March 30 and leaving Monday, April 6. We’re planning on going to Hollywood Studios on Thursday, April 2. We were planning on going to the first fantasmic show that evening.

  43. Is the only reason Hollywood Studios is red on Monday April 12th is that there are EMH that night? I planned on going that day and really want to get my son into the Jedi training. Should I change my plans?

  44. Hi, do you know if in April Characterpalooza will be held close to ToT or on the streets of America?
PS Can you check your time for the MK opening show…on 11/04 it says 8:40 PM and on 21/04 it says 3PM.

One last thing, are you sure there will be Flower Power Concerts everyday in April, they used to be only on the weekends…

Thnks for the April updates, we are already planning!

    1. Dunno where it will be then, can only report where it is.
      Fixed those opening show times.
      Fixed the Flower Power issue

    1. Because Sundays and Mondays are always busy days at the Magic Kingdom. Extra Magic Hours also attract crowds, except early EMH on party days.

  45. Can you check your 180 days dates for ADR’s in April 2015? Your calendar says 10/13/14, but I think it’s supposed to be 10/20/14? Unless I’m figuring it wrong… ???

What do you think?
