Can I park hop with Fastpass+?

Guests must choose ONLY one park in which to use Fastpass+.  There is no park hopping with this technology, which seems like a huge mistake to me.  Why would one invest the extra couple hundred bucks for their family to park hop and not be able to use Fastpass+?   I suppose one could rope drop one park and hop to the park they plan to use the Fastpass+.

For the time being Hollywood Studios and Epcot continue to offer paper Fastpasses, but I expect to be eliminated by the end of January as well.

  1. I booked my FP+ selections last night for our trip in May. There were a couple things that I thought about and wanted to check with someone who’s been through this.

    1. Are the FP’s on your wrist bands?
    2. If they are, do you have to use your own wrist band to use the FP? Like could I use my daughter’s band if she decides not to ride?
    3. If you request a rider switch when you enter on a FP+, does the other person have to prove they have a FP to get one? And does the rider switch allow more than one person to ride on that second ride?
    4. As an Annual Passholder & DVC member, is there anything that I should be getting that I might not know about? I read somewhere that APs get double the FP’s?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. We had the old system down to a tee so my family is freaking out about the new system.

  2. Hi Kenny, I know you’re working on the touring plans but if you get a chance, would love to know your feedback on my advanced FP+ selections for MK? My girls are little (5 and 2) and princesses are the priority. So my plan is at rope drop to do Enchanted Tales With Belle, then if possible meeting either Ariel or Merida after that. Then a 10:40 FP to Under The Sea, a 12:05 FP to Peter Pan, and a 1:05 to Space Mountain for husband and oldest child. I would love a FP to the early parade show but it’s not showing as available.

  3. The more I read about this system the more I’m dreading our trip next December. I am a west coaster with a big love for Disneyland, but want to treat some family to WDW. It’s beginning to sound like we won’t be able to enjoy any of the things that make WDW different, since we stay off site! Is Disney trying to cut out everyone who doesn’t have an AP or stay in their resorts?

  4. Your info is a huge help in the planning of our mid-March trip. But, we are still uncertain on a few things and need some advice. After reading, it looks like we are safe to eliminate our ParkHoppers, and save $200, b/c of FP+. Would you agree? Also, we have a ressie at 6PM at Sci-Fi. Fantasmic is showing at 8:30 and 9:30 on 3/25. Any guess as to what time and where CharacterPalooza will be? If it is at 5:30, would we have enough time to do it and make our ressie? Next, do you see the Tiers at EPCOT shuffling before our trip? Any rumors out there? If it is later, we may have to move our ressie back. And lastly, do you think the new Festival Parade at MK will be added to FP+? We will do MK twice on our trip. If so, will the parade be worth one of the FP’s in your opinion. Me, my wife, and 6 year old daughter are making the week trip, if this helps. Also, I like thin t-shirts. Which one of yours is the thinnest? I would love one for the trip.

    • Brian,
If you use Park Hoppers, I would rope drop one park and ride as much as possible with a good plan, then use the FP+ in the park I’m hopping into. To me, park hopping is over rated because the parks are so far apart. Don’t know when or if Character Palooza will be in March. We’ll have to wait and see. I don’t see any changes coming to EP or HS tiers any time soon. It’s likely that they would offer FP+ for the new parade. The benefits of the FP+ for parade are reserved spot with very few people competing for space, so you can arrive shortly before and the castle is the backdrop for the photos. I’m not sure what you mean by thinnest shirt though?

      • Thanks so much. Thinnest…I meant lightest weight I guess. I now see that one says heavyweight, so I’ll go with the other. Do you get to pick the exact times you want to use your FP? We went last March as well and were enjoying a break/snack at Echo Lake, watching the ducklings, when characters all came about. Of course I didn’t know anything about CP until I read up on your blog after our return. We just were lucky that day. But, we enjoyed it so much, we don’t want to miss it this year. Again, thanks for all you do. You do a wonderful job. I am very envious, and a big fan!

      • You can work with the fp+ to get times you desire if they are available, but it’s not simple to do so. I’ll try to keep you informed on Palooza. Don’t miss the new Dinopalooza too, great characters there.

  5. Since we’re FL residents and have annual passes, we haven’t recieved magic bands yet. We’re staying on campus in Feb. How does that work, do we get them when we check in?

    • John,
I have a magic band from a previous stay and my annual pass is still connected to the system and I book FP+ when I want to ride. The magic band must be connected to YOUR account though.

  6. My family and I have MagicBands from a trip this past October, but will be staying off-site in March. If we buy our park tickets in advance will we be able to link them to our bands and schedule Fastpasses through the app once we enter the park?

  7. Do you know if eventually off site guests will be able to use Fastpass+ before arriving at the parks. We always are off site and would like to have a somewhat plan of what and when I will the Fast passes for…
