Disney World's monorail system opened on October 1, 1971, with the rest of Walt Disney World and quickly became a favorite of many! The monorail cruises above the Seven Seas Lagoon, offering Guests a spectacular view from this "Highway in the Sky."

The monorail system covers a vast 14 miles and can travel up to 40 miles per hour!

Offering access to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, the Ticket and Transportation Center, and several resorts, the monorail is a quick and efficient way to get around Walt Disney World. Many argue that the monorail is the best transportation at Disney World. Check out the recent upgrade that the monorail system got HERE.

Express Monorail Closed

This morning, the Walt Disney World Express Monorail was closed, and this closure has continued until now, into the early afternoon. The Express Monorail offers a direct route from the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) to the Magic Kingdom.

Currently, this does not affect the EPCOT Monorail and the Resort Monorail line.

This does create quite a dilemma for Guests traveling from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom.

Guests have two options to travel from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom. They can hop aboard the Resort Monorail and make frequent stops along the way at Monorail Resorts, finally reaching the Magic Kingdom.

Secondly, Guests can use the Magic Kingdom Ferryboat, but be warned that the line is quite long for this option. According to Guests, two ferryboats are in use, but the crowd continues to grow.

Express Monorail is currently down at Walt Disney World.

We are hopeful that the Express Monorail may reopen soon, but for now, pack your patience if you are visiting the Magic Kingdom today.
