Need to let your kids blow off some steam while you’re visiting the parks? One play area is back up and running!
Health and Safety Protocols
Among temperature screenings, physical distancing, and masks, there have been some other changes to the enhanced protocols Disney implemented upon reopening. Some are very obvious (like the ones I listed above), and others are more subtle.
You may remember Disney had closed off some of the more high-touch areas of the park. One such area was the play areas. Splash Mountain, Dumbo, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh all have play areas in the queue or nearby. It’s nice for the kids to burn off some energy or keep occupied while waiting in line!
Dumbo Play Area
The Dumbo play area is now open again! There is an air-conditioned play area for your kids to run around in the big tent while you wait. Previously, Cast Members would hand you a pager to hold your place in line. When it was your turn, the pager beeped at you and were you able to rejoin the queue in your held spot.
The play area of the Dumbo attraction is open again!
However, now there are no pagers (at least for the time being). You simply join the line again when your kids are done playing. You must wait in the standby line until you reach the play area.
Other Play Areas
This makes me wonder if this is the first step in bringing back the interactive experiences that have been missing from the parks since last July. Will the Splash Mountain toddler area open next? What about the interactive experiences in the queue lines?
The Boneyard kids dig area comes to mind as well! There are so many areas that still aren’t open, but it’s possible we will start seeing more of these locations reopening.
